This role is suited for a lawyer who can take ownership of matters from early case assessment through resolution, while delivering thoughtful advocacy and practical guidance to clients. The position offers the opportunity to handle sophisticated business litigation, shape case strategy, and appear in court, arbitration, and mediation proceedings as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Lead commercial litigation matters through each stage of the case lifecycle, from initial factual evaluation to trial support and appellate coordination.
- Prepare persuasive legal documents, including complaints, answers, motions, briefs, and client correspondence, with close attention to strategy and detail.
- Drive discovery efforts by developing written requests and responses, managing document review and production, and coordinating electronic discovery workflows.
- Conduct witness examinations by taking and defending depositions, preparing clients and other witnesses, and assessing testimony for use in litigation strategy.
- Advocate for clients during hearings, conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings before courts and tribunals.
- Partner with clients and legal team members to assess risks, refine litigation positions, and make informed decisions throughout active matters.
- Engage opposing counsel on case management issues, negotiated resolutions, and settlement discussions when appropriate.
- Oversee case calendars, filings, and matter organization to keep deadlines on track and maintain efficient progress across multiple disputes.
- Support trial readiness by organizing exhibits, coordinating logistics, preparing witnesses, and directing contributions from paralegals, entry-level lawyers, and outside vendors.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active bar admission in good standing required; additional admissions may be beneficial.
- At least five years of hands-on experience handling commercial litigation matters.
- Demonstrated ability to manage litigation independently, including motion practice, discovery, depositions, and courtroom appearances.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical capabilities applied to complex business disputes.
- Proficiency with litigation technology and legal research platforms, including e-discovery tools such as Relativity or Nextpoint.
- Excellent communication skills and sound judgment with strong attention to detail when working with clients, courts, and opposing counsel.
- Proven ability to balance multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining accuracy and organization.
