Original job description

We are looking for a driven Attorney/Lawyer to join a boutique criminal defense practice in Denver, Colorado. This role offers the chance to build courtroom and case development experience while working on sensitive, high-impact matters involving law enforcement and public safety professionals. The position is well suited for an early-career attorney who wants to deepen their knowledge of criminal law, constitutional issues, and litigation strategy in a focused practice environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the defense of law enforcement officers and other public safety personnel in criminal proceedings and related investigations.
  • Research legal issues tied to criminal statutes, constitutional protections, evidentiary questions, and procedural rules to support case strategy.
  • Prepare a range of litigation documents, including motions, briefs, pleadings, discovery materials, and internal legal analyses.
  • Examine investigative files, witness accounts, discovery productions, and supporting evidence to identify key facts and legal arguments.
  • Assist senior attorneys with hearing preparation, trial planning, and courtroom presentation efforts.
  • Participate in client updates and case planning discussions to help move matters from initial review through resolution.
  • Help develop defense approaches for complex incidents, including use-of-force matters and other critical events subject to criminal scrutiny.
  • Support day-to-day litigation activities while managing assignments accurately and professionally in a fast-paced legal setting.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Colorado.
  • At least 1 year of legal experience, with exposure to criminal law, litigation, prosecution, or public defense preferred.
  • Strong legal writing and research abilities, with the capacity to analyze complex factual and legal issues.
  • Ability to draft motions, briefs, and discovery-related documents with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Clear verbal communication skills and the professionalism to work closely with attorneys and clients on sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated interest in criminal defense, constitutional law, and advocacy on behalf of law enforcement or public safety professionals.
