Original job description

We are looking for an experienced financial leader to guide core fiscal operations and strengthen sound stewardship across the organization. This role will oversee reporting, budgeting, compliance, and audit coordination while providing clear financial insight to senior leadership and key stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit or similarly complex organizational finance experience, along with the ability to lead staff, manage competing priorities, and support long-term financial accountability.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct financial planning and day-to-day fiscal oversight, ensuring accurate reporting, reliable controls, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead the preparation and review of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support executive decision-making and long-range planning.
  • Oversee annual audits, regulatory filings, and compliance activities, serving as a primary finance contact for external auditors and other stakeholders.
  • Manage accounting operations related to restricted funds, endowments, investments, and grant-supported resources with careful attention to fiduciary standards.
  • Supervise and develop finance and accounting staff, setting priorities, reviewing work, and promoting high standards across the team.
  • Prepare and present financial information for executive leadership, governing boards, and finance committees in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and operational procedures to reduce risk and improve consistency across finance functions.
  • Monitor cash flow, investment reporting, and overall financial performance to help maintain organizational stability and support strategic initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of progressively advancing experience in accounting, finance, or financial management.
  • Proven background in financial reporting, budgeting, audit support, investments, and compliance oversight.
  • Prior experience leading or supervising accounting or finance professionals.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, foundation, higher education, healthcare, or other similarly complex environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting practices, internal controls, and audit standards.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Certified Public Accountant credential and/or a master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
