Original job description

We are looking for an Assistant Controller to join a growing medical device organization in Indianapolis, Indiana. This position plays a key role in supporting multi-entity accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and helping deliver an efficient close process across domestic and international entities. The role is well suited for a hands-on accounting specialist who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to improve processes, strengthen controls, and support a scaling finance function.

Responsibilities:

  • Record and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, allocations, and balance sheet reconciliations while resolving unusual account fluctuations.
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities across multiple entities, with increasing ownership of timelines, analysis, and consolidated results.
  • Handle day-to-day accounting transactions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash application, and reconciliations for bank and credit card activity.
  • Prepare financial statements, management reporting packages, account analyses, variance explanations, and documentation required for audits.
  • Oversee inventory and cost-related accounting activities and work closely with operational teams to address valuation and transaction discrepancies.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances, support eliminations, and assist with foreign currency accounting across a global entity structure.
  • Partner with local contacts and external advisors to support statutory filings, payroll coordination, tax-related activities, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Manage accounting activity within NetSuite, including general ledger, banking, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, inventory, and multi-subsidiary reporting, while enhancing reports, searches, and workflows.
  • Support treasury operations by coordinating payments, maintaining cash records, assisting with forecasting, and documenting procedures that improve accuracy, controls, and efficiency.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA or equivalent credential required.
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience in hands-on roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong command of NetSuite, including work across general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, intercompany activity, and multi-entity environments.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to perform detailed reconciliations, analyze large datasets, and build reporting tools using formulas and pivot tables.
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and practical experience with close management, financial reporting, audit support, and consolidated accounting.
  • Background in intercompany accounting, foreign currency transactions, and multinational operations.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, process documentation, and internal control improvement is preferred.
