Original job description

We are looking for an AD/Identity Engineer to support enterprise identity services and help strengthen secure access across a complex technology environment in Illinois. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can combine hands-on engineering expertise with strong coordination skills across business stakeholders, internal IT teams, and external partners. The role focuses on modern identity platforms, application authentication, and operational ownership of critical directory and access management services.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact among business stakeholders, internal technology teams, and external delivery partners to keep identity-related work aligned and on track.
  • Guide hybrid identity initiatives by supporting the movement of on-premises directory services into a Microsoft-based modern authentication environment.
  • Collaborate with third-party partners to assess implementation plans, confirm technical settings, and verify that agreed project outcomes are completed successfully.
  • Help onboard and enable roughly 200 applications for updated authentication methods and enterprise identity platforms.
  • Administer, configure, and resolve issues across Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure AD Connect, Okta, and integrated OAuth or single sign-on solutions.
  • Work closely with application owners to collect integration needs, coordinate testing efforts, and manage production cutover activities.
  • Review migrated users, groups, and access assignments to ensure identity data and permissions are transferred accurately.
  • Investigate and resolve issues involving authentication, federation, directory synchronization, and application access.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, support procedures, and knowledge-sharing materials to enable stable ongoing operations.
  • Take long-term administrative ownership of the identity environment and provide continued support after project milestones are completed.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical coordination efforts between business teams, IT organizations, and external vendors.
  • Background supporting Active Directory in enterprise Windows Server environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) and Azure AD Connect.
  • Experience with Okta, single sign-on, and modern authentication standards such as OAuth.
  • Knowledge of application onboarding or migration work related to cloud or hybrid identity platforms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex access issues involving federation, synchronization, and authentication workflows.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange and related identity dependencies is preferred.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
