We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Accountant to join a growing organization in Lexington, Kentucky. This position supports day-to-day receivables operations by ensuring customer billing, payment processing, and collections activities are completed accurately and on schedule. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment when handling account issues, and the ability to work effectively with both customers and internal teams.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee customer account balances by keeping aging records current, applying credits appropriately, resolving payment variances, and documenting amounts that cannot be collected.
- Assess customer credit background and financial information to help determine account eligibility and appropriate payment terms.
- Prepare and transmit invoices through customer-required billing channels, including third-party platforms and other approved submission methods.
- Monitor payment activity, escalate account discrepancies to leadership, identify delinquent accounts, and suggest next steps for collection efforts.
- Partner with colleagues across departments to gather information, address billing issues, and support successful recovery of outstanding balances.
- Support continuous improvement by working with department leadership to spot workflow gaps and apply established practices that strengthen efficiency.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new accounts receivable team members on daily procedures and standards.
- Complete customer-requested lien waivers, maintain awareness of varying state filing requirements, and track invoice-related compliance needs.
- Prepare routine daily receivables reports and accurately post incoming payments, checks, deposits, and credit card transactions within internal systems.
- Maintain organized and confidential financial and business records while contributing to other assigned accounting support tasks as needed.
- At least five years of hands-on accounts receivable experience in a corporate environment.
- Experience supporting receivables activity for high-volume operations, preferably within organizations exceeding $100M in scale.
- Strong understanding of core accounting concepts and financial recordkeeping practices; a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with automated accounting or enterprise financial systems.
- Practical experience with collections, cash application, billing processes, and customer account follow-up.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain a high level of accuracy in financial data entry.
- Effective communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Experience with specialized billing and compliance tasks such as AIA billing and lien waivers is preferred.
