Original job description

We are looking for an experienced Accounts Payable Supervisor/Manager to lead a high-volume AP operation in Minnesota. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance daily payment activities with team coaching, compliance oversight, and operational improvements. The role will guide core accounts payable processes while helping strengthen procedures, reporting accuracy, and system-supported workflows.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day accounts payable operation and provide direction to a team of three AP staff members.
  • Coach team members on policies, issue resolution, and effective processing practices to support consistent performance.
  • Oversee recurring payment cycles, including check and ACH disbursements, to ensure vendors are paid accurately and on schedule.
  • Review invoice coding, employee reimbursements, expense submissions, and corporate card activity for accuracy, policy alignment, and proper approvals.
  • Manage year-end accounts payable reporting and prepare required documentation to support closing activities.
  • Partner on system-related projects within Microsoft Dynamics, including documenting procedures and refining workflow steps.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate tasks, reduce manual effort, and improve overall AP efficiency.
  • Investigate payment discrepancies, vendor concerns, and processing exceptions to drive timely resolution.
  • Support a high-volume environment that includes approximately 1,000 invoices each month, more than 1,000 monthly card transactions, and about 100 expense reports per week.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounts payable operations in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Strong working knowledge of invoice coding, payment processing, check runs, and ACH transactions.
  • Ability to review and audit employee expense reports and corporate credit card activity with a high level of accuracy.
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, high-volume AP environment with competing deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics and confidence navigating accounting systems to support AP workflows.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, document procedures, and contribute to workflow optimization initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills for handling vendor issues, internal questions, and payment exceptions.
