We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a finance team in Evanston, Illinois through a contract opportunity with permanent potential. This position is focused on bringing accounts payable activities up to date, resolving pending invoices, and creating a more consistent and efficient workflow. The role is best suited for someone who is comfortable working on-site, can manage a high volume of transactions across multiple entities, and brings strong attention to detail in a fast-paced accounting environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Process vendor invoices, reimbursement requests, and payment transactions with accuracy and appropriate account coding across multiple entities.
  • Review outstanding payables, clear backlogged items, and help restore timely invoice processing and payment schedules.
  • Prepare and execute ACH payments and check runs while maintaining complete and organized supporting documentation.
  • Assist with month-end close activities by compiling payable data, reconciling transactions, and supporting journal entry preparation.
  • Enter and validate selected payroll-related data as needed to support finance operations.
  • Export transaction details from business systems, organize the information in Excel, and assist with uploads or journal entry support.
  • Use spreadsheets to filter data, perform basic calculations, and create pivot tables to monitor payable activity and identify discrepancies.
  • Contribute to improved accounts payable procedures by identifying inefficiencies and helping establish a more streamlined process.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounts payable, including invoice review, account coding, and payment processing.
  • Proficiency with ACH transactions, check processing, and general accounts payable controls.
  • Working knowledge of month-end close support and preparation of accounting entries related to payables.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, filtering, and the ability to build or use pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or a comparable platform used to manage transaction data.
  • Ability to handle a substantial workload with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting or an understanding of Greek Life organizations is strongly preferred.
