This Long-term on-site Contract position is ideal for a hands-on leader who can guide a small team, maintain continuity in daily operations, and bring structure to a high-volume environment. The role will work closely with cross-functional partners to improve payment workflows, support accurate month-end activities, and strengthen overall AP performance.
Responsibilities:
- Direct daily accounts payable activities while leading and supporting a team of 4-5 AP professionals.
- Supervise the timely processing of a large monthly invoice volume and ensure accurate execution of vendor payments and check runs.
- Manage AP-related accruals and vendor account reconciliations to help ensure a smooth and accurate month-end close.
- Collaborate with accounting, procurement, operations, and project leadership to resolve discrepancies and improve end-to-end invoice workflows.
- Strengthen purchase order-based controls by refining three-way matching for inventory, materials, and other operational purchases.
- Identify inefficiencies in manual processes and recommend improvements that increase accuracy, consistency, and productivity.
- Provide coaching, training, and day-to-day guidance to team members while establishing clear procedures and documentation.
- Step into transactional tasks when necessary, including invoice coding, exception handling, and vendor inquiry resolution.
- Support AP process enhancement efforts, including automation initiatives and system-related improvement projects when applicable.
- Proven experience managing an accounts payable team in a high-volume environment.
- Background in construction, manufacturing, distribution, or another inventory-driven industry.
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable operations, including invoice coding, check runs, accrual accounting, and vendor reconciliation.
- Hands-on experience with three-way matching and purchase order-driven payables processes.
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to use pivots, lookups, and data analysis functions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with direct involvement in day-to-day AP processing.
- Experience with process improvement, AP automation, expense-related workflows, or AP software implementations is a plus.
