Accounting Manager/Supervisor

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to oversee core accounting operations and provide financial leadership for a growing organization supporting a security industry and government contract work. This contract position has the potential to become permanent offering the opportunity to guide reporting, compliance, and process improvement while leading a small accounting-related team. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to balance daily execution with broader financial oversight in a dynamic business environment. This position will be REMOTE for our client based out of Oak Ridge, TN.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring accurate financial operations and dependable support for business objectives.
• Lead, coach, and coordinate a small team that supports accounting, payroll, and related administrative activities.
• Manage financial oversight for government-funded contracts, with close attention to compliance, reporting expectations, and documentation standards.
• Oversee the month-end close cycle, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and final financial results.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.
• Review account balances and resolve discrepancies through timely and thorough reconciliation processes.
• Support payroll administration and help ensure related financial records and compliance obligations are handled correctly.
• Strengthen accounting workflows, internal controls, and departmental procedures to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Provide leadership with financial reporting, analysis, and practical insights that support operational and contract performance decisions.

• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or team supervision responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience managing month-end close, journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.
• Prior experience handling accounting functions tied to government contracts is required.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and overall accounting operations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working within accounting and financial management systems, including JAMIS.
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and full-cycle payroll processing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to succeed in a hands-on environment.
