Original job description

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to lead daily accounting operations for a growing distribution business. This on-site role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, guiding the monthly close process, and delivering reliable reporting that supports business decisions. The position also plays an important part in strengthening controls, supporting audit readiness, and supervising a small accounts receivable and accounts payable team in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily accounting activities across receivables, payables, general ledger, and close-related tasks to ensure timely and accurate financial operations.
  • Lead customer collections and cash application efforts, monitor aging trends, and partner with internal teams to address billing issues, shortages, and credit-related questions.
  • Supervise invoice processing and payment workflows, verify supporting documentation, and ensure vendor records and tax documentation remain complete and current.
  • Manage the month-end close schedule by preparing and reviewing journal entries, accruals, prepaid activity, inventory-related entries, and key account reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly financial statements and analyze operating results to highlight significant variances and provide useful insight to leadership.
  • Support consolidated reporting across multiple entities or locations by reconciling intercompany activity and promoting consistent accounting structures as the organization expands.
  • Coordinate audit preparation by assembling schedules, reconciling balances, and providing documentation needed for external review and regulatory filings.
  • Strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and process efficiency through documentation, workflow improvements, and practical automation opportunities within the accounting system.
  • Coach and oversee AR/AP team members, setting clear expectations and encouraging strong execution and continued development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 or more years in a lead, senior, or supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated success managing a full month-end close and preparing accurate financial statements.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and core AR/AP processes.
  • Experience supporting external audits and preparing detailed schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including functions such as pivot tables and lookup formulas, along with experience using an ERP or accounting platform.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and accountability when working under recurring deadlines.
  • Background in wholesale distribution, food, produce, or another inventory-driven environment is preferred; CPA certification or progress toward it is a plus.
