Original job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join a logistics organization in Franklin, Tennessee on a Contract basis. This onsite assignment is expected to last 2-3 months and will provide critical leadership during a period of transition for the accounting function. The ideal candidate brings strong corporate accounting expertise, a practical approach to problem-solving, and the ability to guide a developing team while maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the monthly close process to ensure financial results are completed accurately and delivered on schedule.
  • Examine journal entries, accrual activity, reallocations, and balance sheet reconciliations, then investigate and resolve issues that affect reporting quality.
  • Drive cleanup efforts across reconciliations by researching aged items, clearing outstanding differences, and strengthening supporting schedules.
  • Advise on technical accounting matters, including lease accounting under ASC 842, and apply sound guidance to daily operations.
  • Provide hands-on leadership to the accounting team by setting priorities, reinforcing accountability, and offering day-to-day coaching.
  • Shift appropriate preparation work such as journal entries and reconciliation analysis to team members while maintaining thorough review controls.
  • Recommend and implement improvements that strengthen accounting workflows, internal controls, and overall departmental efficiency.
  • Support readiness for system-related initiatives by improving general ledger accuracy, correcting unresolved accounting items, and helping ensure cleaner financial data.
  • Demonstrated success in corporate accounting roles with ownership of month-end close, general ledger activity, and financial reporting.
  • Strong experience reviewing journal entries, accruals, adjusting entries, and account reconciliations in a complex environment.
  • Proven ability to analyze accounting discrepancies, identify root causes, and bring issues to resolution in a hands-on manner.
  • Prior leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting staff and helping less experienced team members develop.
  • Working knowledge of technical accounting guidance, including ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Background in improving accounting processes and internal controls to support a more efficient close and reporting cycle.
  • Experience with D365 is preferred.
  • Exposure to implementation readiness activities or large-scale accounting system environments is a plus.
