We are looking for an Accounting Manager to join a team in New York, New York on a Long-term Contract assignment. This position will oversee accounting activities tied to community solar programs, with a focus on accurate close processes, cash application, reconciliations, and financial analysis. The role also partners with internal teams, service providers, utilities, and auditors to strengthen reporting quality, improve workflows, and support a reliable control environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of community solar projects by coordinating with external providers and utilities to gather, review, and interpret billing and collection information.
  • Establish and maintain access to utility and provider portals, extracting key reports needed for accounting, analysis, and month-end close activities.
  • Prepare and post journal entries while completing account reconciliations that support an accurate and timely monthly close.
  • Match incoming cash to provider and utility reporting, and help define consistent methods for recording and tracking receipts.
  • Analyze operating and financial results by comparing billed customer credits with underlying energy generation activity and investigating variances.
  • Produce receivables reporting, monitor aging trends, and recommend appropriate reserve or write-off actions based on account status.
  • Review data assembled by billing support staff, offering guidance that improves accuracy, consistency, and efficiency throughout the close cycle.
  • Maintain general ledger reconciliations with complete supporting documentation and assist auditors with schedules, analysis, and year-end requests.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes and internal controls, and contribute to special projects and ad hoc assignments as needed.
  • Accounting designation required.
  • At least five years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a complex and deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards and internal control principles; U.S. accounting knowledge is an advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with functions such as VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
  • Experience learning new ERP and accounting platforms quickly; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP is preferred.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach others and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work additional hours during peak reporting periods when business needs require it.
