Original job description
We are looking for a hands-on Sr. Accountant to support a short-term Contract assignment in Fairfield, Ohio. This role is ideal for an experienced, detail-oriented accounting specialist who thrives in detailed, data-intensive work and can partner closely with an existing team without direct supervisory responsibility. The position will focus on resolving backlog items, supporting audit-related inventory analysis, and producing accurate accounting data across multiple locations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed accounting work to help clear outstanding reconciliations, schedules, and reporting items within a compressed project timeline.
- Analyze large Excel data sets with tens of thousands of records to identify account activity, validate balances, and support accurate financial reporting.
- Review historical transactions to determine proper classification of accruals and prepaid expenses as of required reporting dates.
- Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries, general ledger review, and account reconciliation support.
- Provide audit support by researching inventory-related items and preparing documentation needed for financial statement review procedures.
- Gather and organize sales and payroll information by state to assist with tax return preparation and related reporting needs.
- Work collaboratively with the accounting team as an individual contributor, taking ownership of assigned deliverables and follow-up analysis.
- Use accounting systems and tools, including Excel and QuickBooks when applicable, to extract data, validate records, and prepare summaries across 19 locations.
- Strong hands-on accounting experience in roles involving month-end close, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to work efficiently through large, complex data sets and build clear supporting analysis.
- Experience preparing and posting journal entries and researching historical accounting transactions.
- Background supporting financial statement audits, including compiling schedules and responding to documentation requests.
- Familiarity with inventory-related accounting analysis and balance validation is highly desirable.
- QuickBooks experience is preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced Contract assignment while coordinating effectively with a broader accounting team.
