The role offers the chance to work across day-to-day accounting, audit support, budgeting, and process improvement while helping strengthen financial operations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting activities and help ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain the general ledger by reviewing postings, preparing reconciliations, and resolving discrepancies across bank and balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and assess journal entries, year-end adjustments, and supporting schedules for items such as receivables, accruals, deferred revenue, and other closing transactions.
- Develop monthly financial reports, variance commentary, and statement support to provide clear insight into organizational performance.
- Guide accounting staff by distributing work, reviewing completed tasks, and offering day-to-day coaching to support quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate audit preparation by assembling schedules, assisting external auditors, and helping address items identified during audit review.
- Support regulatory and tax-related reporting, including annual information return documentation and required 1099 filings.
- Assist with budget planning, government billing, and expenditure reporting while monitoring restricted and unrestricted funding activity.
- Process payroll-related accounting tasks, verify payment documentation, and confirm transactions are properly supported before submission.
- Work with finance leadership to strengthen internal controls, improve accounting procedures, and enhance reporting workflows through process and system efficiencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience, with non-profit or grant-funded environment experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience supporting audits, compliance reporting, and annual tax documentation such as 1099 filings and organizational returns.
- Familiarity with government invoicing, budget tracking, and fund accounting concepts related to restricted and unrestricted resources.
- Understanding of payroll accounting and payment review processes, with careful attention to accuracy and documentation.
- Knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support is beneficial.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
