Original job description

About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accessibility Designer to join our team for a 10-week project with potential for extension. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, designing, and optimizing user experiences to ensure our digital products meet the highest standards of accessibility, inclusivity, and usability for all users. Working closely with UX/UI designers, product managers, and engineering teams, you will champion accessibility best practices, audit existing designs, and craft inclusive design solutions aligned with WCAG standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accessibility Audits & Strategy: Evaluate existing digital products, design systems, and user flows against WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 AA standards to identify accessibility barriers and recommend design solutions.
  • Inclusive UI/UX Design: Create and refine wireframes, design components, screen reader flows, and interaction patterns prioritizing accessibility (e.g., color contrast, focus states, screen reader navigation, touch targets).
  • Design System Integration: Collaborate with design system teams to embed accessible components, documentation, and guidelines into the core design library.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering and QA teams to translate accessibility design requirements into technical specifications and assist in testing/remediation.
  • Advocacy & Guidance: Serve as an internal subject matter expert (SME) on digital accessibility, conducting design reviews and providing constructive feedback to design peers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of digital design experience (UX/UI, Product Design) with a dedicated focus on digital accessibility.
  • Accessibility Standards Expertise: Deep knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards, Section 508, and inclusive design principles.
  • Design Tools: Proficiency in Figma (including accessibility plugins, auto-layout, and token structures) or similar industry-standard design tools.
  • Assistive Technology Awareness: Familiarity with how screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) and adaptive input devices interact with UI design patterns.
  • Location & Availability: Must be based in the Greater Atlanta, GA area and comfortable working in a hybrid environment (combining remote and in-office collaboration in Atlanta).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal accessibility certification (e.g., IAAP WAS / CPACC).
  • Hands-on experience annotating design deliverables for developer handoff (aria-labels, focus order, heading hierarchy).
  • Background working with enterprise design systems.
