Industry: Mass Transit

Job Type: Full-time

Company information: RL Controls. LLC (RLC) is an ISO certified systems integrator that supports the diverse technical needs of the mass transportation industry. Our primary focus is on system technologies that support vehicles solutions for shuttle, bus and rail systems and the facilities.

Summary/Objective: This position is responsible for the site engineering and field functional testing of RL Controls' transit technology systems on assigned projects. Reporting to the Field Engineering Manager, the Field Implementation Engineer serves as the day-to-day liaison between Engineering and Field Service throughout the project lifecycle, from site survey and installation through testing, commissioning, and turnover.

Responsibilities include: Site Engineering and Liaison: independently execute field engineering on assigned project phases, sites, or vehicle fleets, ensuring the installed system matches the approved design and contract requirements.

  • Conduct site surveys and existing-conditions assessments; prepare survey reports and provide field input to design packages.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for installers and subcontractors by interpreting drawings, resolving installation questions, and generating RFIs and field change requests for Engineering.
  • Execute installation checkout, PICO, functional, and integration testing per approved test procedures; troubleshoot failures and document results and nonconformances.
  • Configure, commission, and verify networked subsystems such as switches, routers, NVRs and cameras, radios, and controllers, and record final configurations.
  • Produce accurate redlines, as-built inputs, test reports, and turnover documentation; support customer test witnessing and punch-list closure.
  • Feed field lessons learned and recurring issues back to Engineering and Operations & Maintenance.

Essential Functions: Hands-on field engineer with sound troubleshooting skills, working knowledge of integrated electronic systems, and the judgment to resolve routine field issues independently.

  • 3-8 years of experience in field engineering, commissioning, systems integration, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with IP networking, low-voltage DC vehicle and facility power systems, and RF/communications equipment.
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as multimeters, network testers, fiber test sets/OTDR, and protocol analyzers (e.g., Wireshark).
  • Proficiency in mechanical fitment, equipment and wire placement to mitigate environmental effects, and design-for-installation techniques.
  • Ability to execute and troubleshoot to written test procedures and accurately document results.
  • Experience coordinating with installation crews, subcontractors, and customer representatives.
  • Transit site-access and roadway worker protection certifications, or the ability to obtain them.
  • Ability to travel frequently to customer sites, work in rail yards, vehicles, stations, and wayside locations, and support nights, weekends, and outage-window work when required.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronics, computer, or systems engineering, or engineering technology, required; equivalent field engineering experience may be considered. Networking or fiber optic certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA, FOA CFOT) are a plus. Please note this description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

RLC is an EEO Employer and uses E-Verify. RLC will offer a competitive salary with benefits including health-dental-vision-life insurance, personal time-off, holidays, 401(k) to qualified candidate.
