Original job description

Job Title: Software Engineering Manager Location: Irvine, CA (on-site) Reports to: Director, Software Engineering FLSA Status: Exempt

About Our Organization: RIS Rx (pronounced "RISE Rx") is on a mission to make every dollar allocated for affordability count, delivering true impact for the patients and pharma manufacturers we serve. We’ve built the industry’s first real-time, pharmacist-led GTN Revenue Performance platform, restoring trust, visibility, and integrity to patient affordability. What sets us apart? Our team combines deep pharmacy roots with cutting-edge technology, tackling patient access barriers in smarter, more human ways. Our people-first culture means you’ll find career growth, great benefits, and a supportive environment waiting for you, because we believe when people thrive, everyone wins. Join us and help shape a better, brighter future for patient access.

About the role: RIS Rx is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of four to eight engineers building platforms that identify and mitigate gross-to-net (GTN) revenue leakage for pharmaceutical manufacturers. This is a people-leadership role focused on the growth, delivery, and health of your team while staying close enough to the technology to guide sound decisions.

What you'll do

Lead, coach, and grow a team of four to eight engineers with regular 1:1s, feedback, career development, and performance management.
Own your team’s delivery: planning, prioritization, and execution against roadmap commitments, in partnership with product.
Be accountable for the quality, reliability, and on-call health of the systems your team owns.
Hire, onboard, and build a strong, inclusive team, setting a high bar for craft and collaboration.
Partner with product, operations, and other engineering teams to align priorities and remove blockers.
Stay technically engaged by joining design and code reviews enough to guide architecture and trade-offs, without being the primary individual contributor.
Foster sound handling of regulated data (PHI, partner contracts) and a culture of security and compliance.
Use the leveling framework to set clear expectations and support engineers’ growth toward the next level.

Qualifications

2+ years managing software engineers, built on a strong foundation as a senior engineer.
A track record of shipping software and developing the people on your team.
Enough technical depth in our stack (Go, TypeScript, AWS, PostgreSQL) to engage credibly in technical decisions.
Strong communication, coaching, and prioritization skills.
Experience in healthcare, pharma, or another regulated, data-sensitive domain preferred.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

What we offer:

Free gym membership
Modern office
Annual merit-based salary increases
401(k) with annual company match
Medical - RIS Rx covers 100% of the employee’s base HMO medical plan
Voluntary Dental, Vision & Life Insurance
Flexible Savings Account (FSA)
Paid Holidays
Time off that grows with you:
3 weeks PTO 0-2 years
4 weeks PTO after 3+ years
5 weeks PTO after 5+ years
Recognition programs that celebrate impact and results
Mentorship and coaching opportunities
Clear growth paths and career development support
Fully stocked snack kitchen
Monthly Company-paid lunches
Best cold brew coffee in town on tap
