Automatic Screw Machine Operator

Job Purpose: Produces machined parts by setting up and operating an automatic screw machine. Duties: * Plans sequence of operations by studying blueprints. * Selects cutting tools by studying dimensions and tolerances of parts. * Selects cutting speeds and feed rates by studying properties of metals; making calculations. * Sets feed mechanism by installing collets, bushings, and stock pushers; setting controls. * Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position. * Controls stock and tool movement by installing and adjusting cams, gears, and stops; setting controls. * Positions tool by adjusting tool holder. * Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces. * Maintains specifications by observing operations; detecting malfunctions; adjusting controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools. * Resolves production problems by altering process to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources. * Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. * Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. * Documents actions by completing production and quality logs. * Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Skills/Qualifications: Able to read blueprints with geometric dimensioning and tolerances. Able to read calipers and micrometers
