Original job description
Put your construction accounting experience to work where your judgment matters. An established construction company in the Reno/Sparks area seeks a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting for its construction business and related entities and we, at OneDigital, are helping them find the right fit! You’ll work directly with the President, connect financial results to project performance, and help guide decisions about cash flow, taxes, equipment, and business risk. This role suits an accounting leader who enjoys detailed work, understands construction operations, and can explain what the numbers mean. What You’ll Own
- Financial reporting and close: Lead monthly and annual close, prepare financial statements, manage accruals and reconciliations, and maintain effective controls.
- Construction accounting: Prepare and analyze WIP and percentage-of-completion reporting. Connect job costs, equipment costs, approved change orders, customer billings, and receivables.
- Financial guidance: Prepare cash-flow and tax projections, investigate variances, and bring financial concerns and recommendations to the President.
- External relationships: Coordinate with the CPA, lenders, bonding providers, and insurance partners.
- Accounting operations: Oversee accounting workflows, payroll, payables, receivables, fixed assets, and related-entity reporting while remaining personally involved in the work.
What You’ll Bring
- At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, or seven years with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Direct construction accounting experience, including job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion reporting, billings, and change orders.
- Personal ownership of financial statements, accruals, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, and financial controls.
- Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and applicable GAAP.
- Ability to prepare cash-flow and tax projections and explain recommendations to business leaders.
- Experience working with external CPAs, lenders, bonding providers, and insurance partners.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, sound judgment, discretion, and clear communication.
Preferred: Multi-entity accounting, heavy equipment or equipment-rental experience, Nevada tax and construction compliance knowledge, staff-development experience, and CPA or CMA credentials. Your current title matters less than the accounting responsibilities you’ve personally owned. Construction Accounting Managers and other accounting leaders with comparable experience are encouraged to apply. Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary is DOE
- Additional discretionary bonus available, based on company results and individual contribution.
- Company-paid health and dental coverage for employees and their families, subject to plan eligibility.
- 401(k) with employer match.
