Original job description
Location: San Diego, CA
Work arrangement: Fully on-site. Remote, hybrid, and work-from-home arrangements are not available.
Team: IT / Business Systems
Type: Full-time
Solve real business problems. Build solutions. Ship improvements every day.
Reotemp has manufactured temperature and pressure instrumentation since 1965. We’re a privately held company of around 150 employees, headquartered in San Diego with a growing facility in Houston. Our reputation rests on quality, quick lead times, and customer service where a real person takes ownership of your problem.
We build more than 1,000 custom-configured instruments every day, with an average lead time of about a week. Behind that pace are people, processes, and systems that need to work together - and plenty of opportunities to make them work better.
AI has fundamentally changed how quickly we can make those improvements. We recently switched ERP/MRP systems in six months, a project we believe would have taken years without AI. Today, we deliver dozens of changes to our live business systems each day.
That pace defines this role. We’re looking for an experienced, creative problem-solver who can understand how the business works, identify what needs to change, and take a solution through to production.
The role
You’ll work directly with people across sales, customer service, operations, engineering and finance. You’ll watch how work happens, ask questions, uncover the underlying problems, and build practical solutions.
Some improvements will involve configuring our ERP or CRM. Others will call for an integration, an automation, a new tool, or a change to the process itself. You’ll need the judgment to choose an approach that fits the problem and the initiative to carry it through.
AI will be part of your everyday toolkit. We expect you to use it to investigate, build, troubleshoot, and move faster. Your responsibility is to understand the business need, guide the work, test how the solution behaves, and make sure it delivers the intended result.
You’ll own the full journey: understand the problem, design the solution, ship it, and verify that it improved the business.
What you’ll do
- Spend time with business users and on the manufacturing floor to understand how products, information, and decisions move through the company.
- Turn vague frustrations, recurring workarounds, and disconnected processes into clear problems you can solve.
- Improve our ERP, MRP, and CRM, including workflows, reports, dashboards, data models, and automations.
- Use AI to build integrations, automations, and tools that eliminate duplicate work and connect systems.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual handoffs, and give people better information.
- Deliver frequent improvements, check dependencies, and validate changes according to their impact on live operations.
- Support users through rollout, investigate unexpected behavior, and follow through until the solution works in practice.
- Document what you build and help shape what we tackle next.
Qualifications
What you bring
Experience delivering real improvements. You’ve independently taken work from an unclear business need through implementation and rollout. You can explain the problem you solved, the decisions you made, and how you knew the change worked.
Creative, practical problem-solving. You question assumptions, investigate underlying causes, and find workable approaches when the answer isn’t obvious. You can also recognize when simplifying a process is the best solution.
Technical background and practical judgment. Previous experience in software development, business systems, or a related technical field is an advantage. You understand how business processes, data, and connected systems fit together. You’re comfortable using AI to build and troubleshoot solutions, then validating them by testing workflows, checking data accuracy, and identifying unintended consequences. You take ownership of the results and follow through until the solution works reliably in the business.
Effective use of AI. You already use AI tools to get meaningful work done. You know how to give them useful context, test assumptions, and verify results. You’re curious about new capabilities and quick to apply them where they improve the work.
Sound judgment at a fast pace. You can make progress with incomplete information, break work into manageable changes, and recognize when an issue needs deeper investigation before release. You’re comfortable with frequent delivery and taking responsibility after a change goes live.
Curiosity about manufacturing. You want to understand how a customer specification becomes a finished instrument. You’re interested in physical products, production processes, and the connection between software and the work happening on the floor.
Strong communication and follow-through. You listen carefully, work well with nontechnical colleagues, explain decisions clearly, and stay accountable for the outcome.
Helpful experience
- Manufacturing, distribution, or another operationally complex business.
- ERP/MRP or CRM implementations and ongoing improvements.
- Reporting, analytics, and data tools.
- Process mapping, Lean, or continuous improvement.
- An analytical or technical degree, or equivalent practical experience.
