Systems Test Engineer / Robotics Operator - Graduates Considered

A fantastic opportunity for a Systems Test Engineer / Robotics Operator to join an innovative technology company developing intelligent automation for scientific research. This role would particularly suit someone with practical experience operating robotic systems who wants to work across robotics, hardware, software and science. You will run and monitor automated equipment, troubleshoot faults and work closely with engineers and scientists to keep experiments running reliably as the company expands its round-the-clock operations.

Location: San Francisco, CA. Fully on-site, five days per week. Rotating shifts covering days, nights and weekends.

Salary: $115,000 to $180,000 base salary, depending on experience, technical assessment and relevant domain knowledge + competitive equity

Requirements for Systems Test Engineer / Robotics Operator:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering, ideally from a good university. Bioengineering graduates may also be considered where they have relevant practical robotics experience
  • Practical experience working with robotics, hardware or automation systems, with a particular preference for candidates who have directly operated robotic equipment. Relevant internship experience will also be considered
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware or software automation gear in a production setting - this can be from an internship but you should be able to discuss examples
  • An interest in building experience across engineering and science through the daily operation of automated systems
  • A practical approach to investigating faults and maintaining reliable equipment operation
  • Comfortable assessing systems by running them directly in a live production environment
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document incidents, faults and troubleshooting findings
  • Great communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering, scientific and operational colleagues
  • Flexibility to work rotating day, night and weekend shifts on-site in San Francisco
  • Startup experience is beneficial, particularly within robotics
  • Experience with monitoring dashboards, alerting tools, log analysis or life science laboratory equipment is beneficial

Responsibilities for Systems Test Engineer / Robotics Operator:

  • Operate robotic systems and associated laboratory equipment to support daily scientific experiments
  • Prepare equipment, launch automated workflows and complete any remaining manual steps
  • Monitor systems during live runs, identifying problems and responding promptly to interruptions
  • Prioritise keeping experiments running smoothly and maximising equipment uptime
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software faults, carry out routine maintenance and escalate issues where required
  • Record incidents clearly so engineering and science teams can understand and resolve problems
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists to improve system reliability and operational processes
  • Help bring additional robotic systems and equipment into operation as the company grows
  • Become an expert system user, providing practical feedback to guide future product improvements

What the role offers:

  • A hands-on robotics role with the opportunity to build experience across hardware, software, automation and science
  • The chance to become an expert operator whose feedback directly influences system development and reliability
  • Competitive salary and equity while working on technology supporting scientific research and advances in healthcare
