Original job description

About the Role Receptive is seeking a Software Engineer to build and improve the technology that connects people with mental and physical health services. You’ll support our three telehealth brands, developing software that improves how people access care and how our teams deliver it.

Reporting to the Head of Technology, you’ll work with engineering teammates and cross-functional partners to turn business and user needs into reliable, maintainable software. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership of their work, and delivering improvements through frequent, thoughtful iteration.

You’ll bring strong engineering fundamentals, a practical approach to automation and AI-assisted development, and an interest in understanding the people and workflows behind the code you write.

Why Join Us Receptive is a modern digital health platform dedicated to emotional wellness, mental clarity, and holistic health. Since our founding, we have helped over one million individuals access the right care at the right time by connecting them with trusted professionals who support their mental and physical well-being.

Licensed in all 50 states and serving more than 100,000 members each year, Receptive brings together leading brands across behavioral and lifestyle health. Our portfolio includes Pettable, ADHD Advisor, and Top Nutrition Coaching, which provides evidence-based nutrition care through virtual coaching and insurance-supported programs.

Grounded in clinical excellence and a people-first mission, we empower licensed providers with the autonomy, technology, and support they need to deliver accessible, personalized care.

What You'll Do Build and Deliver Useful Software

  • Develop, test, and ship features that support accessible digital health services across Receptive’s brands.
  • Build and maintain full-stack applications and integrations using Webflow, TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS.
  • Work with product and business partners to understand needs, clarify requirements, and turn problems into practical technical solutions.

Own Your Work from Development through Delivery

  • Take responsibility for getting agreed-upon features production-ready, from technical planning through implementation, testing, deployment, and follow-up.
  • Break work into manageable increments, communicate progress and tradeoffs, and work through roadblocks, bringing in teammates when needed to keep delivery moving.
  • Investigate bugs and production issues, address underlying causes, and improve the reliability and performance of the systems you work on.

Strengthen Engineering Quality and Ways of Working

  • Write clear, maintainable code and review pull requests to identify defects, surface risks, and maintain consistency across the codebase.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, and testing while remaining accountable for the quality and security of your work.
  • Support quality assurance through automated and hands-on testing, regression checks, and clear defect documentation; verify fixes and help assess release readiness.
  • Collaborate with teammates, share knowledge, and apply appropriate security and privacy practices when working with sensitive healthcare information.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in a product or technology-enabled services company.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, with experience building and maintaining APIs and applications deployed on AWS.
  • Ability to work across application layers and learn the tools needed to deliver a complete solution.
  • Experience writing automated tests, performing hands-on functional and regression testing, and contributing to deployment workflows and reliable production systems.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools, with the judgment to review, test, and validate their output.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment about scope, quality, speed, and maintainability.
  • Clear communication, collaborative working habits, and the ability to move work forward independently while seeking input when needed.
  • Experience working in a growing company where priorities and processes can shift and evolve, sometimes quickly.
  • Curiosity, openness to feedback, and a commitment to improving both your work and the way the team builds software.

What Helps You Stand Out

  • Relevant experience in healthcare tech, HIPAA, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Hands-on, working experience with Healthie, GraphQL, or Webflow.
  • Data warehousing, Snowflake, business intelligence, or reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with collaboration and project management tools such as Asana and Notion.

Where You’ll Work & What You’ll Receive Receptive is a remote-first company.

The target base salary range for this role is $140,000-$175,000, depending on experience, expertise, internal pay equity, and other business considerations.

Full-time, US-based employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage with generous employer contributions (Receptive covers 100% of the premium for an employee’s coverage), a 401k with 4% employer match, monthly wellness stipend, annual L&D budget, flexible time off, company holidays, and paid parental leave.
