FIELD MARKETING LEAD
Team: Marketing · Reports to: Head of Revenue · Location: [San Francisco / Remote, US] · Travel: ~30–50%
ABOUT REC
Think about the last time you tried to book a tennis court. Or sign your kid up for a swim lesson. Or find an open rec league that actually fits your schedule. You probably ended up on a website that looked like it was built in 2003, or even worse, filled out a piece of paper.
$3T is spent on recreation globally, and it's built on a completely fragmented system that's largely untouched by technology.
At Rec (recreation.ai http://recreation.ai), we're using AI to change that: reimagining how the world plays, participates in community, and gets active. Our vision is simple: more recreation for everyone. We sit at a rare intersection, a consumer product loved by everyday players and an enterprise platform trusted by the organizations that power recreation.
We're a small team with firepower. Our founders were among the first few hundred at Uber, then led teams at The Athletic and MasterClass. The rest of the team combines builders from Google, Microsoft, Strava, Hipcamp, and Airbnb.
People join Rec for two reasons: you want to build AI that gets people back in the real world, and you want to work with really smart people..
THE ROLE
Parks and recreation is a relationship-driven market. Directors, superintendents, and recreation managers meet at state association conferences, regional trainings, and peer roundtables and that's where buying decisions start. As our Field Marketing Lead, you'll own Rec's in-person presence across the country and turn it into pipeline. You'll build the events calendar, run our booth and sponsorship strategy, create our own hosted events, and partner closely with Sales to make sure every handshake becomes a conversation that moves forward.
This is a builder role: you'll be the first dedicated field marketer lead, at Rec, with the room to define the playbook and the budget to prove it works.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Own the events strategy. Build and manage an annual calendar of state and regional parks & recreation association conferences (e.g., CPRS, NRPA, and state chapters), trade shows, and industry gatherings. Decide where we show up, at what level, and why.
- Run flawless execution. Manage sponsorships, booth design, shipping, swag, speaking slots, staffing, and logistics end to end. Make Rec the booth everyone talks about.
- Create Rec-hosted experiences. Design and run customer dinners, regional roadshows, executive roundtables, user groups, and webinars that bring prospects and customers together.
- Drive pipeline with Sales. Partner with AEs and SDRs on territory plans, pre-event outreach, meeting booking, and post-event follow-up. Own lead capture, routing, and handoff.
- Activate customers as champions. Turn happy customers into speakers, panelists, and references; build programs that grow our community of advocates.
- Build regional and account-based campaigns. Launch targeted plays for key regions, procurement cycles, and named accounts, combining events, direct mail, email, and digital.
- Measure everything. Track cost per meeting, pipeline sourced and influenced, and ROI by event. Report results and reallocate budget based on what works.
- Manage budget and vendors. Own the field marketing budget, association relationships, and agency/vendor partners.
WHO ARE YOU
- 5+ years in field, event, or regional marketing, ideally at a B2B SaaS company.
- A track record of owning a multi-event calendar and tying events to measurable pipeline and revenue.
- Strong partnership with Sales - you speak their language and earn their trust.
- Exceptional project management: you can run five events at once without dropping details.
- Comfort with a CRM (HubSpot or Salesforce) and marketing automation for lead capture, routing, and reporting.
- Clear, confident communication, on stage, in a room of directors, or in a Slack thread.
- Willingness to travel roughly 30–40%, with heavier stretches during conference season.
- A scrappy, ownership mindset suited to a fast-growing startup.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience selling or marketing to government, public sector, or municipal buyers (GovTech).
- Familiarity with the parks and recreation community and its associations.
- Experience with account-based marketing tools and event platforms.
- Past experience as the first field marketer, building a function from scratch.
OUR VALUES
- Be Relentless. Move fast. Own it. Ship real value early and often.
- Win Together. Speak up, go beyond the boundaries of your role. That's how we win.
- Take Pride. Treat this like it's yours - because it is.
PAY & BENEFITS
- Compensation: $160,000–220,000 base + meaningful equity (final offer will be based on your background, experience and skillset)
- Benefits: Flexible PTO, top-tier health/dental/vision, and a 401(k) plan to support your future.
- Work location: San Francisco, on-site (FiDi)
