Are you ready to make a lasting impact on literacy?
At Really Great Reading, we are building a bright, diverse, and passionate team dedicated to leading the industry in improving literacy scores nationwide. With nearly two decades of leadership bringing the Science of Reading to thousands of schools, we design innovative products, training, and materials that transform how educators teach and how students learn. Here, we empower our team with the tools, support, and professional growth opportunities they need to thrive in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment - where your work truly makes a difference.
Why This Role Matters
Behind every informed business decision at Really Great Reading is accurate data, thoughtful analysis, and an understanding of how our business operates. As our organization evolves, we need to understand what drives performance, where processes need improvement, and how to invest resources to best support the educators and students we serve.
The Finance and Operations Analyst connects financial analysis with the everyday operations of our business. Working across departments, this role helps leaders investigate challenges, evaluate resource needs, improve processes, and translate data into practical decisions.
Success in this role means delivering trusted financial and operational insights, identifying the root causes of business challenges, improving systems and workflows, and independently moving projects from an initial question to an actionable solution.
The Role
We are seeking a resourceful, analytical Finance and Operations Analyst to support business analysis, financial planning, performance reporting, and operational improvement across Really Great Reading. This is a business operations role with a financial analysis core, partnering closely with Finance and Operations leadership and colleagues across departments.
The ideal candidate brings experience connecting operational activity to financial outcomes. They ask thoughtful questions, investigate beyond the numbers, and help determine whether a business need calls for additional resources, a process change, or a system improvement. They are comfortable with evolving priorities and can organize and move work forward without step-by-step direction.
What You’ll Do
Business and Operational Analysis
- Partner with teams across the organization to define business questions, identify relevant data, and develop actionable insights.
- Analyze workload, service demand, staffing capacity, costs, and process performance to support resource planning.
- Investigate the underlying causes of operational challenges and evaluate whether staffing, process changes, system improvements, or other investments would best address them.
- Combine financial and operational data to assess business needs, compare options, and recommend next steps.
- Proactively identify trends, inefficiencies, and emerging issues that warrant further investigation.
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Prepare financial reports and budget-to-actual variance analyses, explaining key drivers and their business implications.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and updates to financial models.
- Translate operational assumptions, including staffing needs and changes in business activity, into financial projections.
- Build and maintain models that compare scenarios and help leaders evaluate costs, tradeoffs, and potential investments.
- Conduct ad hoc analysis to support planning and business decisions.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Collaborate with department partners to define and monitor meaningful key performance indicators.
- Develop and maintain reports and dashboards that make financial and operational performance easier to understand.
- Gather, validate, and reconcile data from multiple sources, investigating discrepancies and coordinating corrections.
- Present findings clearly, explaining what the data shows, why it matters, and what action it supports.
- Document data sources, assumptions, and reporting methods to improve consistency and reliability.
Process Improvement and Systems Support
- Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve data and reporting accuracy.
- Work with stakeholders to implement process improvements and assess whether changes achieve their intended results.
- Support the day-to-day administration of financial and operational tools, including systems such as Ramp.
- Help maintain system users and access, including adding and removing users in coordination with established approval processes.
- Document workflows and support colleagues in using systems and processes effectively.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Project Ownership
- Build relationships across departments to understand business needs and connect operational activity with financial outcomes.
- Manage analytical and process improvement projects from problem definition through recommendations and implementation support.
- Organize priorities, track progress, and communicate dependencies or roadblocks.
- Balance recurring reporting and operational responsibilities with new projects and emerging needs.
- Take initiative to surface problems and propose solutions while keeping stakeholders informed.
