Roadtex Transportation has become a leader in the nationwide LTL industry, specializing in transporting time and temperature-sensitive products. We handle refrigerated and LTL needs by leveraging no sailing schedules, our nationwide network of 32 strategically placed temperature-controlled facilities, our state-of-the-art tracking, and our specialized equipment and warehousing capabilities. In 2022, Roadtex was acquired by Echo Global Logistics. The acquisition brings a truckload brokerage and expanded transportation management solutions to Roadtex's customers while providing Echo with our national warehouse footprint and advanced temperature-controlled transportation solutions. Position Overview Own the functional configuration, business rules, and operational optimization of the legacy proprietary WMS and other platforms across a multi-client 3PL network. Translate warehouse and client requirements into controlled WMS configurations and workflows, govern change requests, and improve execution through consistent system-supported processes. The role works closely with IT, WMS developers, and software providers to align functional design, technical execution, and operational results.

Key Interfaces

Primary partners:

  • IT / WMS Developers / Software Providers: technical builds, integrations, enhancements
  • Operations Leaders (Site Managers, Supervisors, Leads)
  • Client Success / Implementation / Solutions teams
  • IT Infrastructure / Security
  • Finance / Billing (as needed for client invoicing logic)

Core Responsibilities

  1. Functional Ownership of WMS Business Rules
  • Own approved business rules across the legacy WMS, including putaway, replenishment, allocation, wave logic, and picking/packing flows.
  • Evaluate operational impacts of rule changes before implementation.
  • Manage parameter governance to avoid configuration drift across sites and clients.
  • Maintain a functional rule library and decision log.
  1. Client Onboarding and Solution Configuration
  • Lead WMS setup for new clients: item master profiles, handling rules, storage/pick types, label formats, ASN structures, UOM conversions, and value-added services.
  • Translate statements of work into WMS workflows and SOPs.
  • Develop and run functional user acceptance testing (UAT) with Operations and clients; document results and obtain required business and IT approvals before go-live.
  • Support post-go-live hypercare and stabilization.
  1. Continuous Improvement and Optimization
  • Identify opportunities where WMS configuration or workflow redesign drives measurable gains (labor productivity, accuracy, cycle time, space utilization).
  • Partner with CI and Ops to pilot improvements, validate benefits, and scale across applicable clients.
  • Own WMS-enabled standard work and ensure training materials match latest system designs.
  1. Change Control and Enhancement Management
  • Serve as the functional gatekeeper for WMS changes.
  • Capture requirements, write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and prioritize enhancements with CI and Ops.
  • Maintain functional and regression tests for core workflows and billing; document defects, retest fixes, and coordinate rollout, rollback plans, and communications with IT.
  • Ensure changes are compliant with client contracts, quality standards, and audit requirements.
  1. WMS Functional Support and Training
  • Investigate workflow errors, status exceptions, inventory discrepancies, and RF behavior; reproduce defects, document business impact, and coordinate resolution with IT and software providers.
  • Review failed interface transactions with IT and validate operational recovery after corrections.
  • Train supervisors, leads, and power users on new features and processes.
  • Maintain a knowledge base and quick-reference guides.
  1. Functional Application Administration
  • Manage operational user setup and role assignment within guardrails established by IT.
  • Maintain location maps, zone structures, pick paths, and equipment profiles.
  • Perform periodic audits of configuration integrity and master data hygiene.
  • Partner with IT on release notes review to translate technical changes into operational impact.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years in warehouse operations, 3PL, or WMS functional support, including at least 3 years of hands-on WMS administration, configuration, implementation, or functional support.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with at least one Tier 1 enterprise WMS: Manhattan Associates, Blue Yonder, or Softeon. Experience must include configuration, testing, or application troubleshooting beyond routine end-user transactions.
  • Proven experience configuring WMS workflows for multi-client operations and translating business requirements into system rules.
  • Strong understanding of inbound, outbound, inventory control, and value-added service processes.
  • Experience developing test scenarios, executing UAT or regression testing, and supporting controlled production changes.
  • Ability to work effectively with Operations, Continuous Improvement, clients, IT, and software providers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting proprietary WMS platforms alongside enterprise WMS applications.
  • Multi-site WMS implementations, client onboarding, upgrades, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • SQL or data-query familiarity to investigate inventory and system issues; familiarity with EDI / API transaction flows.
  • Lean / Six Sigma exposure or a demonstrated continuous improvement approach.
  • Food-grade or regulated warehouse experience, including lot traceability, expiration dates, FEFO allocation, and inventory holds.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Process-to-System Translation: Can map physical workflows into WMS logic cleanly.
  • Structured Problem Solving: Root cause analysis across physical process vs. system setup.
  • Change Management: Understands how to roll out system change without breaking operations.
  • Communication: Can explain WMS logic to operators and operational realities to developers.
  • Customer Mindset: Balances standardization with client-specific needs.
