Original job description

RDI Trials runs clinical studies for diagnostic companies. Our laboratory supports those studies by receiving, processing, testing, storing, and shipping clinical research specimens.

We are hiring a Laboratory Technician to perform hands-on laboratory work from sample receipt through final disposition. You will report to the Lab Director and work closely with our laboratory and study teams. This is a full-time, onsite position in Van Nuys, Los Angeles.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Prepare for study samples

  • Complete study-specific training and review sample volumes, specimen types, stability windows, labels, and manifests.
  • Prepare freezer locations and supplies before shipments arrive.

Receive and track samples

  • Receive, open, and sort sample shipments.
  • Accession samples, reconcile shipments against manifests, and document discrepancies.
  • Keep Salesforce and freezer location records accurate and complete.

Support laboratory testing

  • Assess sample integrity and track protocol-defined testing windows.
  • Perform assigned research testing and sample analysis in accordance with training, approved procedures, and applicable authorization.
  • Run samples, calibrators, and quality controls on automated analyzers as assigned.
  • Identify assay or instrument issues and escalate promptly to the Lab Director.
  • Record and transmit results and complete study data entry accurately and on time.

Store and ship specimens

  • Pull and organize samples against study manifests.
  • Package and stage shipments according to protocols and applicable requirements.
  • Update sample tracking and storage records after shipment.

Maintain laboratory readiness

  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration checks.
  • Maintain temperature and humidity logs and complete laboratory records.
  • Prepare study kits and track supplies, reagents, and consumables.
  • Coordinate with vendors and obtain pricing for laboratory materials as requested.
  • Identify risks and process improvements, communicate problems early, and follow issues through to resolution.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Samples are received, processed, tested, stored, and shipped accurately and on time. Records are complete and ready for review. Quality concerns and timeline risks are identified early, and the study team can rely on the laboratory to complete its commitments.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow study protocols, laboratory SOPs, and training requirements accurately.
  • Careful sample handling, labeling, recordkeeping, and data entry.
  • Ability to organize work around sample stability windows and study deadlines.
  • Clear communication and prompt escalation of discrepancies, quality concerns, and conflicting instructions.
  • Willingness to support routine laboratory work, equipment care, supplies, and study kit preparation.
  • Ability to learn and use our laboratory information and sample tracking systems.
  • Ability to work full time onsite in Van Nuys, Los Angeles.

Please describe your relevant laboratory experience, the instruments and specimen types you have worked with, and any experience supporting clinical research or mass-spectrometry studies.
