Original job description
An advanced manufacturing facility in the Dallas area producing high-end engineered surfaces is hiring an on-site Industrial Software & Automation Engineer. In this role, you will take technical ownership of plant software, automated controls diagnostics, and systems integration across advanced European manufacturing equipment and digital infusion lines. You will troubleshoot automation issues, build predictive control systems, and master proprietary software to architect custom internal solutions.
Key Responsibilities

- Software Ownership: Manage system images, controlled backups, code versioning, change logs, disaster-recovery procedures, and OEM updates.
- PLC/HMI Development: Program, configure, diagnose, and validate authorized PLC and HMI updates with documented testing and rollback plans.
- Reliability & Spares: Establish predictive maintenance routines for automation systems and manage spare-part readiness for industrial PCs and controllers.
- New Trials & OEM Liaison: Collaborate with process and materials specialists on new product trials, and coordinate with European machine vendors to internalize technical know-how.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial software, automation, or commissioning experience in manufacturing.
- Degree in Software, Computer, Electrical, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent demonstrated plant experience).
- Practical programming and diagnostic experience with Siemens PLCs (TIA Portal) and HMIs.
- Foundation in industrial PCs, industrial communications, variable frequency drives, and machine sequence logic.
- Experience with Breton machinery or industrial printing lines is highly valued.
salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year shift: First work hours: 8 AM - 4 PM education: Associate
Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Testing: Diagnose electrical faults across incoming power, distribution, motors, drives, sensors, wiring, grounding, and machine interfaces. Read and maintain schematics, using specialized test equipment to verify issues and confirm fixes.
- Breton Chromia Systems: Troubleshoot the Breton Chromia line and auxiliary equipment, managing interfaces with pumps, cooling units, and site utilities.
- Root Cause Isolation: Partner with mechanical and software engineers to differentiate electrical issues from mechanical breakdowns, network communication drops, or control-sequence errors.
- Repairs & Validation: Carry out or direct authorized repairs, component replacements, and commissioning checks; ensure full operational safety before returning machines to production.
- PLC & Controls Support: Utilize PLC and HMI diagnostics for signal and I/O tracing; coordinate logic changes and advanced automation troubleshooting with controls specialists or the OEM.
- Maintenance Records: Document recurring faults, electrical inspections, critical spare parts inventory, and approved recovery processes.
- Training & OEM Liaison: Manage technical escalations with OEMs and outside specialists, retain repair documentation, and instruct operators on detecting and escalating electrical symptoms.
