Original job description

Position Summary The PCB Layout Designer & Engineering Technician is responsible for designing and creating printed circuit board (PCB) layouts for new product development, sustaining engineering, and technology projects. This role works closely with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineers to translate schematic designs into manufacturable PCB layouts while supporting prototype builds, laboratory activities, engineering documentation, and design verification. The ideal candidate possesses strong PCB CAD expertise, attention to detail, and hands-on technical skills to support products from concept through production release.

Key Responsibilities

PCB Design & Layout

  • Create complex PCB layouts from electrical schematics using approved ECAD tools (Siemens Xpedition).
  • Develop multilayer PCB designs, including high-density, mixed-signal, analog, digital, RF, and power designs.
  • Perform component placement, routing, stack-up implementation, and design optimization.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA), and design-for-testability (DFT) principles.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to resolve signal integrity, power integrity, thermal, and EMI/EMC concerns.
  • Generate fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing documentation packages.
  • Support PCB design reviews and implement approved design changes.

Technical Skills

  • Component placement and routing
  • Multilayer board design
  • High-speed design fundamentals
  • Differential pair routing
  • Controlled impedance design
  • HDI technologies
  • PCB stack-up development
  • Design rule management

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, CAD Design, or related technical field; equivalent experience considered.
  • At least one year of PCB layout experience
  • Experience with PCB CAD tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics/PADS, or similar.
  • Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Experience creating manufacturing documentation packages.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience with AI tools to drive operational efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Experience supporting high-speed digital, mixed-signal, RF, or power electronics designs.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC design practices.
  • Experience with mechanical collaboration in MCAD environments.
  • Familiarity with PLM, ECO, and revision control processes.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and offshore design partners.
