Engineer Smarter Workflows. Deliver More Reliable Federal Health IT Services.

Rackner is seeking a Software Automation & Platform Engineer to design, build, and advance automation capabilities that strengthen complex enterprise technology operations.

In this hands-on role, you'll transform manual processes into efficient, reliable workflows that improve service delivery, reduce operational friction, and enable teams to work more effectively. You'll engineer solutions across ServiceNow, enterprise integrations, and modern software delivery platforms, combining technical expertise with practical problem-solving.

Working alongside engineering, architecture, security, and operations teams, you'll modernize established systems, resolve integration challenges, and deliver measurable improvements while maintaining service continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate automation opportunities using service data, operational trends, and stakeholder input; maintain a prioritized automation backlog that supports informed decisions and measurable service improvements.
  • Build, test, and enhance ServiceNow workflows using Flow Designer and Integration Hub, including request catalogs, role templates, and self-service forms that streamline service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain REST API integrations that connect ServiceNow with approved enterprise systems, enabling reliable data exchange and coordinated workflows.
  • Engineer and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code solutions, incorporating automated testing, quality checks, and security practices to strengthen software delivery.
  • Integrate approved AI-assistant capabilities with ServiceNow case creation and authorized knowledge resources while operating within applicable security and operational requirements.
  • Validate automation and integration changes, diagnose technical issues, and implement improvements that increase reliability, maintainability, and operational performance.
  • Execute controlled releases and limited pilots in coordination with authorized stakeholders, measure results against approved requirements, and support troubleshooting or rollback when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering or platform engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing automation with ServiceNow Flow Designer and Integration Hub.
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
  • Developing or implementing REST API integrations.
  • Eligibility for a Tier 3 federal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Developing or integrating AI-assisted workflows, including large language model (LLM) or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities, in security-controlled environments.
  • Supporting software automation, platform engineering, or enterprise integrations within federal technology or similarly regulated environments.
