Original job description
At Qualtrics, we create software the world’s best brands use to deliver exceptional frontline experiences, build high-performing teams, and design products people love. But we are more than a platform - we are the creators and stewards of the Experience Management category serving over 18K clients globally. Building a category takes grit, determination, and a disdain for convention - but most of all it requires close-knit, high-functioning teams with an unwavering dedication to serving our customers.
When you join one of our teams, you’ll be part of a nimble group that’s empowered to set aggressive goals and move fast to achieve them. Strategic risks are encouraged and complex problems are solved together, by passing the microphone and iterating until the best solution comes to light. You won’t have to look to find growth opportunities - ready or not, they’ll find you. From retail to government to healthcare, we’re on a mission to bring humanity, connection, and empathy back to business. Join over 5,000 people across the globe who think that’s work worth doing.
Software Engineer II - Discover Studio
Why We Have This Role
At Qualtrics, capturing and making sense of human sentiment at scale is at the heart of what we do. As a Software Engineer on the XM Discover Studio team, you will build customer-facing applications, designing and crafting rich frontend experiences (and their supporting backends), that will be directly visible to customers. You will partner side-by-side with fellow software engineers, tech-ops, and product managers to solve complex business problems that directly impact how global enterprises listen to and act on customer signals. If you want to build robust customer-facing software using modern open-source technologies, this role gives you the ownership and platform to do so.
How You’ll Find Success
- Curiosity & Continuous Learning: You bring a natural drive to explore new technologies, dive deep into system behavior, and continuously expand your technical craft.
- Engineering Rigor: You take pride in well-structured code, comprehensive unit testing, thorough code reviews, and sound design documentation.
- Collaborative Problem Solving: You enjoy working closely with cross-functional partners, exchanging candid feedback, and iterating together to find simple solutions to hard problems.
- Bias for Impact & Delivery: You navigate sprint goals with urgency and focus, prioritizing features that deliver measurable value to customers.
- Systems Mindset: You enjoy analyzing algorithms, data structures, and distributed architectures to identify bottlenecks and optimize performance.
How You’ll Grow
- Broadening Technical Scope: Start by taking ownership of story-level and epic-level features, with a clear path to driving broader platform initiatives and architectural decisions.
- Bidirectional Mentorship: Learn directly from seasoned engineers while building your leadership skills by mentoring peers across design and implementation.
- Agile & XP Mastery: Deepen your practical knowledge of full Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog refinement) and Extreme Programming (XP) practices.
Things You’ll Do
- Deliver Customer-Facing Features: Design and ship simple, robust web-based solutions from concept to deployment, translating complex product requirements into clean engineering implementations.
- Champion Software Quality: Ensure resilience and maintainability by writing automated unit tests, leading code reviews, and creating clear technical design specifications.
- Foster Agile Excellence: Actively participate in daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and planning poker, collaborating with teammates to unblock tasks and meet delivery commitments.
- Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate closely with product managers, tech-ops, and fellow engineers to turn real-world user feedback into immediate system improvements.
What We’re Looking For On Your Resume
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Strong level of curiosity and interest to learn
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and deploying scalable web services and UI
- Hands-on proficiency with modern software stacks and data technologies (such as React, NodeJS, Java, Spring, Kafka, Elasticsearch, relational/NoSQL databases, and container platforms like Docker/Kubernetes)
- Strong computer science fundamentals, specifically in data structures, algorithms, and modular software design patterns
- Proven track record of applying engineering best practices, including continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD), test automation, and structured design documentation
- History of delivering impact in an agile/Scrum or XP team environment
What You Should Know About This Team
- We are an experienced, high-performing team supporting multiple web services and UIs, with disparate technology stacks as we transition off of legacy systems. If you are a self-starter, and someone who is rarely satisfied with maintaining the status quo, you will thrive.
Our Team’s Favorite Perks and Benefits
