• Apply relevant AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards during inspections.
• Mark or identify inspected materials and maintain accurate quality records, logs, and inspection reports.
• Use inspection tools such as fillet weld gauges, V-WAC gauges, squares, and tape measures to verify workmanship and dimensions.
• Maintain and calibrate welding equipment and quality inspection instruments.
• Assist with welder qualification tests, certification activities, and training on welding, fitting, and quality requirements.
• Manage drawing revisions and other quality documentation processes.
• Work with production personnel and management to investigate defects and resolve quality concerns.
• Contribute to process improvements, company training, and workplace safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
• At least 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Background in quality control, inspection, or a related manufacturing position.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
• Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Experience using standard inspection equipment, including fillet weld gauges, V-WAC gauges, squares, and tape measures.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safe work practices.
Preferred Qualifications
• Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Familiarity with nondestructive testing methods, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Penetrant Testing (PT).
• Additional certifications in structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection.
• Previous experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
• Primarily works on the production floor with limited office time.
• Requires standing, walking, and inspecting materials throughout the workday.
• Work takes place in an active, non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
