Job Description – Application Development Engineer
We are looking for an Applications Development Engineer with technical expertise in the field of semiconductor packaging and electronics manufacturing. Previous experience involving material science, and interactions with external clients is highly valued. The Company (who we are) – PulseForge develops and manufacturers innovative process equipment and material solutions for electronics manufacturing and advanced semiconductor packaging. Our proprietary PulseForge equipment enables next-generation manufacturing processes, helping customers overcome complex technical challenges, improve manufacturing yield and efficiency, deliver superior cost of ownership and accelerate the commercialization of advanced electronic devices. As our technologies gain broader adoption and customer requirements continue to evolve, we are expanding our applications engineering capabilities to support increasingly complex applications, accelerate process innovation, and deliver scalable, high-performance manufacturing solutions. About You You are a hands-on engineer or scientist with a strong technical foundation in materials science, semiconductor processing, or electronics manufacturing. You are naturally curious, enjoy solving complex technical problems, and are motivated by developing innovative solutions to emerging manufacturing challenges. You approach engineering challenges systematically, combining experimental design, analytical thinking, and practical laboratory experience to develop and validate new processes. You are comfortable taking ownership of technical projects, working independently, and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams. You recognize the importance of translating experimental results into repeatable, reliable processes that can ultimately support customer manufacturing requirements. Role Summary As an Applications Development Engineer, you will work within the applications engineering team to develop, optimize, and validate electronics manufacturing and semiconductor manufacturing processes using PulseForge technologies. You’ll execute experimental plans, analyze process data, and contribute directly to the advancement of electronics manufacturing solutions. This role focuses primarily on application development and technical project execution, with occasional external interface for technical discussions, demonstrations, or onsite support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement internal process development projects to expand PulseForge products application capabilities, particularly in electronics manufacturing and semiconductor packaging processes.
- Design and execute experiments (DOE) to optimize processing conditions and enable new material solutions for PulseForge Applications.
- Maintain ownership of technical development projects, including planning, documentation, and reporting of results.
- Collaborate closely with, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to improve system capabilities and process integration.
- Support prototype tool validation, process qualification, and development of application notes and work instructions.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, ensuring proper use of equipment, chemicals, and cleanroom protocols.
- Contribute to technical documentation, internal knowledge databases, and process guidelines.
- Represent the applications engineering function in internal project reviews and cross-functional development initiatives.
- Occasional participation in technical conferences, workshops, and technology forums to stay current on industry trends.
- Travel: Up to 10% (domestic and international) for technical demonstrations, tool installations, or internal meetings.
- Location: Austin, TX preferred, or willingness to relocate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on laboratory or manufacturing process development experience.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple technical projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated experience in experiment design, data analysis, and problem-solving within multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in engineering, material sciences or physical sciences (or equivalent work experience).
- Cleanroom experience and familiarity with backend semiconductor or advanced packaging equipment.
- Understanding of semiconductor device manufacturing processes, surface mount technology, thin-film deposition, or polymer curing processes.
- Strong grasp of the glass manufacturing process and chemistry is a plus.
- Practical experience working with process control methodologies and manufacturing tools. Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Salary:
$115,000- $120,000 annual, commensurate on experience.
