Original job description

Jr Software Engineer - Mobile (Remote, US-Based Only)

Build software that matters.

At Pulsara, we build technology that helps healthcare teams communicate, coordinate care, and make critical decisions when every second counts. Our mobile applications put that technology directly into the hands of the people who need it.

We're looking for a Software Engineer โ€“ Mobile who enjoys building things, solving problems, and learning along the way. You'll work alongside an experienced team to develop and improve our Android and iOS applications, helping create software that's reliable, intuitive, and easy to use.

You don't need to know everything coming in. If you love figuring out how things work, enjoy turning ideas into working software, and want to see the impact of what you build beyond the screen, you might be exactly who we're looking for. Keep reading.

What is Pulsara?

Pulsara connects people when seconds matter.

Pulsara is a secure, user-friendly platform that connects care teams across departments and organizations. By replacing fragmented communications with one unified patient channel, Pulsara simplifies workflows, helps reduce treatment times and costs, and improves the experience for patients and caregivers.

Who we are:

Pulsara is a 100% remote team made up of people with backgrounds in technology, healthcare, emergency services, business, and beyond, united by a common purpose: to improve the lives of people in need and those who serve them.

Working remotely gives us flexibility, but great remote work takes more than being able to work from home. We communicate intentionally, collaborate across teams, take ownership of our work, and depend on one another to follow through.

We are a company that continues to evolve. We value people who are curious, comfortable learning, willing to challenge how things have always been done, and interested in helping us make both our product and the way we work better.

๐Ÿ”— Want to learn more? Explore our technology at pulsara.com and discover our team, culture, and benefits on our Careers page.

What Youโ€™ll Be Building

Pulsara isn't a single mobile application. Our technology environment includes:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Native Android and iOS applications

๐Ÿ’ป Web-based patient care, administration, and reporting tools

โ˜๏ธ A highly scalable AWS cloud environment

๐Ÿ”Œ Internal and public APIs

๐Ÿ—„๏ธ Relational databases and complex data workflows

๐Ÿ” Secure, HIPAA-compliant systems connecting healthcare organizations

Mobile development here means understanding how applications, services, and workflows work together - not just writing code for a single screen.

Your Primary Job Focus and Day-to-Day Activities Will Include:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Build and improve mobile applications

Develop features, maintain functionality, and write clean, reliable code for our native Android and iOS applications.

๐Ÿ’ป Write code and learn from feedback

Use tools such as Android Studio and Xcode. Submit pull requests, participate in code reviews, and apply feedback to strengthen your skills and your code.

๐Ÿค– Use AI-assisted development tools

Use AI tools to support coding, debugging, testing, and problem-solving. Learn to evaluate AI-generated code and apply sound engineering judgment.

๐Ÿงฉ Solve problems and troubleshoot issues

Investigate bugs, identify causes, and work with teammates to develop and verify solutions.

๐Ÿค Collaborate throughout development

Work with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Test Engineers to clarify requirements, share ideas, and deliver quality software.

๐ŸŽจ Create intuitive mobile experiences

Build with usability in mind, considering platform-specific design, customer workflows, and how mobile applications connect with APIs and other services.

๐Ÿš€ Keep learning with the customer in focus

Explore new technologies, ask thoughtful questions, and improve your skills while recognizing that healthcare professionals depend on the software you build.

What Will Help You Succeed

โœ… Hands-on Android and/or iOS development experience through professional work, coursework, or personal projects

โœ… Familiarity with Kotlin, Java, Swift, or comparable programming languages

โœ… Understanding of basic software development principles and writing clean, maintainable code

โœ… Familiarity with Android Studio, Xcode, Git, or similar development tools

โœ… Interest in developing native applications for both Android and iOS

โœ… Experience using AI-assisted tools in software development

โœ… Basic debugging, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills

โœ… Appreciation for intuitive design, software quality, and customer experience

โœ… Curiosity, attention to detail, clear communication, and a willingness to learn and collaborate

Additional Experience That Can Be Helpful

โž• A mobile application or software project you've built and can share

โž• Familiarity with Google's Material Design or Apple's Human Interface Guidelines

โž• Exposure to APIs, databases, backend services, web applications, or full-stack development

โž• Experience with Agile development, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, or DevOps

โž• A degree or coursework in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

A degree or number of years doesn't necessarily tell us what someone can accomplish. We value demonstrated skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. We're interested in what you've built, the problems you've solved, and the potential you bring.

What Makes Someone Great at This Job

๐ŸŒŸ You're curious. You ask thoughtful questions, explore new approaches, and enjoy figuring out how things work.

๐ŸŒŸ You think like the customer. You understand that reliability, usability, and simplicity matter when healthcare professionals are coordinating time-sensitive care.

๐ŸŒŸ You enjoy building things. You like turning ideas into working software and take pride in creating something useful.

๐ŸŒŸ You welcome feedback. You see code reviews and collaboration as opportunities to learn and grow.

๐ŸŒŸ You care about quality. You pay attention to details and look beyond whether the code simply runs.

๐ŸŒŸ You collaborate and take ownership. You communicate openly, follow through, contribute ideas, and ask for help when needed.
