Original job description
Procore Technologies is the leading technology partner for every stage of construction. We empower construction teams to drive efficiency and mitigate risk through actionable AI & data-driven insights. For over 20 years, we have been transforming the industry with purpose-built solutions for construction professionals and we’re looking for talented people to help us build together.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of AI-powered experiences for the construction industry. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Procore AI Experience team, you will work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering partners to design, develop, and deliver intelligent software experiences across product-led growth (PLG), platform integrations, and construction-specific workflows. Your strengths in software engineering fundamentals, AI application architectures (LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows), and distributed systems will drive your success.
You will report to the Engineering Manager, Procore AI Experience, and will be based in our Austin, TX office.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, and operate production-quality AI-powered applications and platform services that deliver measurable value across customer-facing workflows.
- Integrate large language models (LLMs), AI agents, contextual knowledge systems, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) into reliable, scalable, and secure cloud software architectures.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Engineering counterparts to translate ambiguous customer challenges into maintainable software solutions.
- Advance AI-assisted software development practices across Procore by experimenting with, building, and refining developer agent harnesses, testing automation, and workflow tooling.
- Take end-to-end ownership of engineering outcomes - from architectural design and code reviews to observability, latency, and continuous performance tuning.
- Establish reusable engineering patterns, abstractions, and best practices that elevate team code quality and help colleagues work effectively alongside AI agents.
- Monitor live application performance and leverage operational data, evaluation frameworks, and customer feedback to drive iterative system improvements.
What You Bring
- Significant professional experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade distributed software systems in a modern cloud environment.
- Hands-on engineering experience integrating modern AI technologies into production software (e.g., LLM APIs, function/tool calling, RAG pipelines, or orchestration frameworks).
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted developer tooling and an active approach to incorporating agentic engineering workflows into daily practice.
- Deep foundational knowledge in core software engineering disciplines: system design, API construction, data modeling, automated testing, and debugging.
- Strong ability to navigate ambiguity independently, make sound architectural tradeoffs (balancing reliability, cost, latency, and simplicity), and communicate technical rationale clearly.
- Experience in AI platform engineering or developer productivity engineering, specializing in agent harness design and coding automation
- Track record of building or contributing to developer platforms, shared engineering infrastructure, or product-led growth (PLG) SaaS features.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related STEM discipline, or equivalent practical work experience.
