Original job description

Material Handler (Machine Shop) We are seeking a dependable, safety-minded, and highly organized Material Control Handler to manage inventory, organization, and material flow within our active machine shop. This role goes beyond general labor; we need an individual who understands how physical material tracking and digital data integrity directly impact production schedules.

  • Pay Range: $18.00 – $19.00 / HR (Depending on Experience)
  • Schedule: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM | Monday through Friday (Minimal Overtime)
  • Location: Houston, TX 77041
  • Required PPE: Steel-toed boots and safety gloves
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check upon a conditional offer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Move raw materials throughout the facility using forklifts and pallet jacks. Stage materials for machinists based on shop orders, travelers, and direction from leadership.
  • Help locate, sort, label, and organize materials in racks, lanes, and staging areas. Perform regular cycle counts and track inventory health using computer systems, scanners, or basic ERP/inventory data entry.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to log material usage, manage inventory records, and reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and system data.
  • Support inbound and outbound movements, manage shipping documentation, verify part numbers/labels against shop paperwork, and coordinate with carriers.
  • Actively support, including cleaning, sorting, standardizing, and sustaining work areas. Ensure all aisles, racks, and staging areas are kept clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
  • Communicate clearly with production and leadership when material is missing, damaged, or delayed. Strictly follow all safety requirements, forklift safety protocols, and housekeeping standards.

  • Proficient with basic computer software and data entry; intermediate Excel skills (managing spreadsheets and using basic formulas) are required to track inventory logs.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and remain active/standing in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Excellent attendance history, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision to improve staging discipline across the shop floor. For immediate attention, apply online at www.pridestaff.com/houstonnw
