Assistant Superintendent
Powers & Sons Construction Indianapolis, Indiana | Full-time | On-site
Powers & Sons Construction is hiring an Assistant Superintendent to support field operations for projects managed by our Indianapolis office. Working alongside the Superintendent and Project Manager, you will help coordinate trades, maintain safe and organized jobsites, track progress, and deliver quality work from mobilization through closeout.
Founded in 1967, Powers & Sons is a third-generation, family-owned general contractor and construction management firm. Our portfolio includes commercial, education, healthcare, cultural, public-sector, and multifamily projects.
The Opportunity
This role is suited to a construction professional ready to take greater ownership in the field. You will lead assigned areas or phases of work under the Superintendent’s direction while developing the planning, coordination, and leadership skills needed to grow into a Superintendent role.
Responsibilities
Assist with daily field operations, including subcontractor coordination, deliveries, equipment, site access, and housekeeping.
Reinforce project safety requirements, identify unsafe conditions, and help ensure corrective actions are addressed promptly.
Review drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and updates to help confirm work meets project requirements.
Support short-term look-ahead schedules, monitor daily progress, and flag labor, material, or coordination issues before they delay work.
Coordinate assigned work areas and trades, communicate priorities, and follow up on commitments.
Maintain accurate daily reports, progress photos, manpower records, and other field documentation in Procore.
Help identify drawing conflicts and field questions, and coordinate resolution with the Superintendent and Project Manager.
Assist with quality inspections, subcontractor meetings, punch lists, and project closeout.
Qualifications
Experience in commercial construction through an assistant superintendent, field engineer, foreman, or comparable field role; 2–5 years preferred.
Ability to read construction drawings and specifications, with a working understanding of trade sequencing and jobsite safety.
Strong organization, follow-through, and communication skills, with the confidence to address issues professionally and ask questions when needed.
Comfort using digital drawings, email, and field reporting tools; Procore experience preferred.
A degree in construction management or a related field is preferred. Equivalent hands-on construction experience is valued.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour construction training preferred.
Work Environment
This is a field-based position supporting the Indianapolis office and assigned project sites. Work includes regular site walks, outdoor conditions, required protective equipment, and schedules that may include early starts or occasional extended hours based on project needs.
