Original job description

Points North is looking for a Prevailing Wage Consultant to serve as a trusted subject matter expert for our customers and internal team members to partner with. This Consultant will translate complex prevailing wage requirements, industry developments, and best practices into clear, practical guidance that strengthens our customer experience. The ideal candidates will bring deep, hands-on experience with prevailing wage compliance and the Davis-Bacon Act, a proactive approach to monitoring regulatory changes, and the ability to make technical information accessible to a variety of audiences. Experience with state-level prevailing wage laws, union wage rates, and working with awarding bodies and enforcement authorities is strongly preferred.

This Consultant will operate as an independent contractor for Points North, to begin.

What You'll Be Doing:

Serve as Prevailing Wage Expert with our customers and teams:

  • Advise customers and internal teams such as Support, Implementation, Managed Services and Product Management on prevailing wage requirements; the Davis-Bacon Act and Related Acts, and applicable state and local requirements; research complex questions and document practical recommendations.
  • Provide expertise to instill confidence and help customers navigate wage determinations, worker classifications, fringe benefits, apprentices, certified payroll reporting, and related documentation.
  • Support escalated compliance questions, distinguish jurisdiction-specific requirements, and identify when clarification from an agency or legal counsel is needed.

Keep Teams Informed and Build Internal Expertise:

  • Monitor federal, state, and local regulatory developments, agency guidance, wage determination updates, and industry trends; assess their relevance to our teams and customers.
  • Deliver timely internal briefings and training that explain what has changed, who is affected, and what actions teams should consider.
  • Partner with internal teams to create and maintain internal reference guides, FAQs, decision frameworks, and best-practice resources grounded in authoritative sources.

Strengthen Products, Processes, and Industry Relationships:

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Implementation, Support, and other internal teams to translate compliance needs into clear business requirements, workflows, and educational materials.
  • Review processes and proposed product changes for prevailing wage considerations; identify gaps and recommend improvements that support accuracy, consistency, and scalability.
  • Coordinate with awarding bodies, labor compliance authorities, industry associations, and union representatives as appropriate to clarify requirements and inform internal guidance.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Client-centric communication and strong consulting skills, with the ability to explain complex requirements, facilitate training, and influence cross-functional decisions.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach to research and problem-solving, with sound judgment about ambiguity, source reliability, and when to escalate questions.
  • Working knowledge of state-level prevailing wage law and public works requirements, including researching, and applying state and federal Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) guidance and wage determinations, highly preferred
  • Experience interpreting union wage schedules, collective bargaining agreements, fringe benefit contributions, and rate changes; experience working with unions, awarding bodies, or federal, state, and local labor compliance authorities, highly preferred.
  • A collaborative, solution-oriented mindset, and the ability to turn technical expertise into practical guidance, repeatable processes, and stronger internal capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in prevailing wage compliance, consulting, labor compliance, or public works payroll administration, including expertise demonstrated with the Davis-Bacon Act and Related Acts.
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience supporting payroll, certified payroll, or construction compliance software, preferred
  • Excellent communicator, turning the complex into simple and digestible content for teams from the C-Suite to early career individual contributors
  • Proven practical experience researching and applying wage determinations, classifications, fringe benefit requirements, and certified payroll reporting, along with a demonstrated ability to advise and train internal stakeholders.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% for company meetings, team trainings, and other internal company needs

For this newly created position, Consultants will work as Independent Contractors on a 1099 basis and receive an hourly rate for all work completed with or for Points North. Final compensation determinations will reflect your unique experience, skills, and responsibilities of the role. At Points North, you will find an energizing, ambitious, and supportive workplace where your contributions make a real impact. Ready to join our team?
