Schedule: Monday – Friday (No Evenings, No Weekends, No Emergency On-Call)
Compensation: $47.45 – $59.32 per hour
Position Summary
Love veterinary medicine - but not the 10-hour clinical days or back-to-back appointment pressure? Transfer your clinical knowledge and surgical expertise into education! Pima Medical Institute is seeking a passionate Veterinary Technology Educator / DVM to join our San Marcos campus faculty team.
In this rewarding full-time role, you will split your time between engaging didactic classroom instruction and hands-on surgical teaching (spay, neuter, dental, and soft tissue procedures). Enjoy a predictable Monday-through-Friday schedule with real work-life balance, zero production pressure, no client estimate arguments, and no emergency on-call shifts while shaping the next generation of veterinary technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical & Clinical Teaching:
• Surgical Demonstrations: Perform live surgeries (spay, neuter, dental, and soft tissue procedures) as teaching demonstrations for veterinary technology students.
• Laboratory Supervision: Supervise and coach students during surgical labs, monitoring proper anesthesia, sterile technique, patient recovery, and safety protocols.
• Regulatory Compliance: Maintain surgical logs, medical records, and teaching documentation in accordance with California veterinary state board standards and AVMA CVTEA requirements.
Didactic Instruction & Student Mentorship:
• Classroom Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lectures and practical demonstrations using an established curriculum.
• Academic Evaluation: Evaluate student skill competencies, grade assignments promptly, and maintain accurate course records in CampusNexus.
• Retention & Coaching: Monitor student attendance, track academic performance, implement retention strategies to maintain an 80%+ student success rate, and mentor future professionals.
Administrative & Campus Engagement:
• Recordkeeping: Monitor daily attendance and maintain required documentation for student files.
• Program Enrichment: Coordinate guest speakers, community service outings, and visits to regional veterinary hospitals; assist with supply and equipment inventory as needed.
Minimum Requirements
• Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
• Licensure: Active, unencumbered license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of California (VMB).
• Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of practical occupational experience as a DVM, including hands-on surgical experience.
• Technical Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general computer applications.
• No prior teaching experience required - we provide complete training through our PMI Methods Program!
Compensation & Employee-Owner Benefits
• Hiring Range: $47.45 to $59.32 per hour.
• Schedule: Full-Time (Monday – Friday; predictable day shifts with no weekends or emergency calls).
• Employee Ownership: Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) - earn equity in the company as an employee-owner.
• Retirement: 401(k) Plan with up to a 10% Employer Match.
• Healthcare Options: Comprehensive Medical (PPO & 2 HDHP options with HSA), Dental, and Vision coverage.
• Financial Protection: Basic Life Insurance, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, HSA, and FSA options.
