Human Resources Manager

Location: Tempe, Arizona Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote Travel: Required; domestic travel to field locations and business offices

About the Opportunity

The Human Resources Manager oversees day-to-day HR operations across three PlayCore businesses. This role primarily supports field installation, field service, and construction teams across multiple states, partnering with operations and HR leadership to strengthen employee engagement, improve retention, ensure compliance, and standardize HR practices.

The ideal candidate is a bilingual English/Spanish HR professional with 5+ years of progressive HR experience in construction, field service, skilled trades, or a similar labor-intensive industry. This individual combines strong relationship-building and training skills with exceptional attention to detail, payroll accuracy, and an understanding of project labor costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • HR Operations: Manage the employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee development, discipline, and termination. Provide guidance on HR policies and practices across assigned businesses.
  • Recruiting and Retention: Partner with operations leaders on workforce planning, hiring, staffing, onboarding, and retention strategies for geographically dispersed field teams.
  • Employee Relations and Training: Build trusted relationships with field employees and leaders; communicate effectively in English and Spanish; investigate and resolve employee concerns; coach managers; and deliver training that reinforces consistent practices.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, with particular attention to California requirements. Coordinate workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes and support OSHA compliance and safety initiatives.
  • Payroll and Labor-Cost Analysis: Partner with payroll, finance, and operations to ensure accurate payroll, pay rates, and employee records. Analyze project labor costs, labor burden, and workforce expenses; maintain HR metrics; and identify and correct discrepancies to prevent costly errors.
  • Process Improvement and Operations Partnership: Collaborate with HR and operations leadership to understand field staffing and project needs, standardize hiring and HR processes across all three businesses, and drive consistent adoption of policies and practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience supporting any one of the following industries: construction, field service, skilled trades, landscaping, roofing, concrete, or a similar labor-intensive industry.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations, recruiting, HR compliance, payroll coordination, and workforce administration.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to build relationships across field and administrative teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically on a flexible schedule and work onsite in Tempe three days per week.
  • Multistate HR experience and familiarity with California employment requirements.
  • Experience with project labor costs, labor burden, or workforce analytics.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • PHR certification, OSHA certification, or construction safety knowledge.
  • Experience standardizing HR processes across multiple business units.

Work Arrangement

The hybrid schedule includes three onsite days and two remote days each week. Domestic travel is required, primarily to locations in California, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, with potentially more frequent travel during initial onboarding and periodic trips thereafter.
