Our Merchandise Planning and Allocation (MP&A) teams are the driving forces behind making the organization’s product visions available to our consumers through calculated and strategic measures. Your involvement in sales and margin forecasts, promotional performance analysis, inventory management, and vendor relationships will play a critical role in obtaining goals while maintaining PetSmart’s reputation in the market as a trusted partner to pet parents.

About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment:

At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

About the Job

We’re seeking a Lead Promo Effectiveness Analyst to turn promotional data into clear insights and actions for the business.

This role will report to the Sr Manager of Promotional Effectiveness and own the translation of promotional performance into actionable business decisions that drive profitable growth, improve customer value perception and strengthen promotional ROI. The role blends financial rigor, analytical leadership and deep business partnership, and is well-suited for leaders with backgrounds in FP&A or Merchandise Planning & Analysis (MP&A) who are eager to apply their skills in a pricing and promotions context. This role is critical to connecting pricing and promotion analytics with enterprise financial, customer and merchandise performance, helping the organization make more informed, financially grounded decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with Merchandising, Pricing Strategy, Marketing, MP&A, Finance and Operations to evaluate promotional performance and identify opportunities to improve customer and business outcomes across all promotion types, including loyalty, in-store and online promotions.
  • Build deep expertise in aligned merchandise divisions, understanding category strategies, customer behavior, promotional history, promo calendars and business priorities.
  • Use promo effectiveness tools, reporting and analytics to evaluate promotional performance across offer types, including sales, margin, ROI, customer response, trips, basket, retention and value perception outcomes.
  • Support promotional forecasting at an offer level and in aggregate to ensure the business understands projected spend and return
  • Evaluate how different promotional tools support specific customer levers, such as acquisition, activation, reactivation, retention, frequency, basket building and value perception, and identify opportunities to optimize investment across tactics and divisions.
  • Translate promotional results into clear insights, recommendations and actions through fact-based summaries, hindsights and performance readouts that help teams understand what worked, what did not and where to adjust.
  • Help build and maintain the Promo Playbook by organizing learnings, best practices, customer levers, test results and wins across divisions so the organization can optimize promotional decisions.
  • Identify reporting gaps, tool needs and opportunities to improve the consistency, scalability and usability of promo effectiveness insights.

What Success Looks Like

  • Promotional decisions are increasingly grounded in customer, category and business outcomes (e.g., maximizing sales and margin efficiency)
  • Business partners have clear, consistent views of performance drivers, implications and recommended actions.
  • Merchandising partners view Promo Effectiveness as trusted thought partners
  • Promo Playbook learnings and shared wins help the organization make more consistent, planful promotional decisions across loyalty, in-store and online promotions.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in retail analytics, pricing, promotions, loyalty, merchandising, planning, finance, marketing analytics or another relevant function.
  • Experience analyzing promotional, loyalty, customer, category or business performance within a retail or consumer business.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate promotional performance, identify trends and connect results to customer and business outcomes.
  • Ability to translate data into clear, compelling stories using PowerPoint, dashboards and other reporting tools.
  • Strong communication and partnership skills, including the ability to present insights, recommendations and tradeoffs to Merchandising and cross-functional business partners in a clear and actionable way.
  • Ability to think across both individual tactics and aggregate performance to identify opportunities to optimize promotional investment across divisions and offer types.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a large, multi-unit retailer, specifically in areas like analytics, pricing, promotions, loyalty, merchandising, planning, or finance.
  • Experience working closely with pricing, promotions, merchandising or commercial strategy teams.
  • Familiarity with promotional tactics, customer levers and retail business drivers, including sales, margin, ROI, trips, basket, retention, customer engagement and value perception.
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, AI and BI platforms, reporting products, dashboards or financial modeling tools.

Additional Job Considerations

  • This role requires collaboration, teamwork, and face-to-face interaction with colleagues, leaders, and/or clients.
  • Being in the office ensures access to leaders, cross-functional partners, and resources necessary to make timely decisions and drive results.
  • On-site presence in accordance with our FlexSmart policy supports our culture of innovation, mentorship, and engagement, which is integral to our success in developing the best team.
  • This is not intended to be an all-inclusive, exhaustive list of all essential job functions for this position. PetSmart retains the right to change or assign other required job duties to this position.
