Original job description

At Parallel, we build AI agents that help healthcare organizations automate their administrative processes and unlock additional revenue, starting with medical coding.

Today, up to 25% of healthcare spending is lost to manual, repetitive administrative tasks. Legacy software hasn't helped: it has made work slower, more complex and more frustrating for care teams.

We believe AI agents can change this. Our technology combines large language models with system-level automation to do real work inside existing hospital tools. No integration, no disruption.

Our first agent automates coding and frees up time for medical teams to focus on patients.

We launched in 2024 and already have 800+ customers and a team of 30+ people. We are backed by top-tier investors (Index Ventures, Y Combinator, Hexa, Frst, Kima Ventures, Better Angle and the CEO of Mistral AI), and this is just the beginning.

The future of healthcare isn't just digital, it's automated. Come help us build it!

THE ROLE

As our Engineering Lead for the US market, you will own Parallel's technical roadmap for the US and be the first engineering leader in our New York office. You will make our product work for US hospitals, ship it into our first pilots, and build the New York engineering team around you.

Parallel uses AI to take administrative work off hospital teams, starting with inpatient coding. Our agents read the full patient record before billing, find what was documented but not coded, and coders validate every suggestion. We work with around 100 hospitals and clinics in France and are launching in the US in 2027.

Reports to: Chris Rydhal, CTO and co-founder. You work every day with Paul Lafforgue, CEO and co-founder, who leads the US launch, and with our Head of Coding, US.
Location: New York. Regular trips to pilot hospitals, plus 2 to 4 weeks of onboarding in Paris.
Team: a Forward Deployed Engineer and an AI engineer joining from Paris in 2027, then the engineers you hire as we grow.

Your mission for 2027: make our product ready for US hospitals, live in our first pilots, and build an engineering team in New York that strong engineers want to join.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

The US technical roadmap

Decide what we build for the US, in what order, and with whom, in line with Paris.
Our core engine and architecture stay shared with Paris: you own the US layer on top of it.

The US pack of our engine

With our Head of Coding and AI engineers, adapt the engine to US coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG, APR-DRG), build the US test sets and measure accuracy.

US integrations and data

Get our agents running on US EHRs (Meditech, Oracle Health, Altera) through ScreenFlow, our computer-use technology.
Handle US data formats: 837I claims, HL7, C-CDA.

US infrastructure and security

Set up and run our US environment: hosting, access controls, logging, HIPAA technical safeguards, the technical side of SOC 2.
Lead the security reviews with hospital IT teams.

Pilots

With our Forward Deployed Engineer, deploy Parallel at our first US pilot hospitals and keep it running.

The New York team

Hire and lead our New York engineers, and set the bar, the pace and the culture of the office.

WHO YOU ARE

Experience

4 to 8 years in software engineering, including at least 2 years leading a small team or as tech lead.
Hands-on: you still read and write code, and you get into the codebase when something needs unblocking.
You have shipped a product that handles US patient data: HIPAA, BAAs, security reviews with hospital IT.
You have built EHR integrations (HL7, FHIR), ideally on Meditech, Oracle Health (Cerner) or Altera.
LLMs or ML in production are a plus.

Mindset

Builder: you have taken something from zero to real and want to do it again.
Owner: you care about the product outcome, not just the engineering process.
Bridge builder: you work well with a team in Paris, 6 hours ahead, and keep one product, not two.
Low ego, hands-on: you take on whatever the US launch needs.

Our values

Play to Win: we want to win. That means caring about results, moving fast and bringing the right intensity when it matters.
High Trust, High Standards: trust is our starting point, and the more freedom you have, the higher the bar.
Low Ego, Hands-On: no one is above the work. Leading means taking responsibility, not distancing yourself from execution.
Don't Take Yourself Too Seriously: we take our mission very seriously, not ourselves.

HIRING PROCESS

Intro call with Paul (30 min).
Technical deep dive with Chris (60 min): a system you built and the hard calls you made.
Design session (90 min, in person in New York or by video): design our first US pilot, end to end (see Case study).
Meet the team: Head of Coding, US and one of our AI engineers in Paris.
References.

We care about who you are, not just what's on your CV. If you're drawn to what we're building but don't meet every requirement, we still want to hear from you. Studies show that women in particular tend to apply only when they meet 100% of the criteria. If that's you, please don't let that hold you back. We'd love to receive your application.
