Position Description:
Outpost Technologies is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Engineering Solutions team. The ideal candidate will work as a member of our Test and Evaluation (T&E) team to develop, integrate, and maintain software capabilities supporting remote sensing platforms, digital scoring, and modeling and simulation efforts.
This position will focus on the development and enhancement of software tools used to analyze test data, evaluate system performance, and support lethality analysis. Responsibilities will include developing physics-based simulations, contributing to six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) digital twin models, processing and analyzing sensor data, and maintaining existing software applications and user interfaces to meet evolving customer requirements.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in software development, problem-solving, and software testing. They should be comfortable working collaboratively with engineers, technical leads, and end users to translate requirements into practical software solutions. The ideal candidate is adaptable, receptive to feedback, and capable of taking ownership of assigned development tasks while contributing to the broader technical objectives of the team.
The posted compensation range represents the expected pay range for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may be higher or lower than the stated range based on factors such as relevant experience, education, certifications, specialized expertise, geographic considerations, market conditions, and alignment with internal compensation structures and government contracting requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop, expand, and maintain Outpost's software tool suite to improve digital scoring, lethality analysis, and Modeling & Simulation capabilities.
- Design, develop, and integrate software applications, algorithms, and data-processing tools supporting remote sensing platforms and Test and Evaluation activities.
- Develop and contribute to physics-based simulations and 6-DOF digital twin models to support system performance analysis, trajectory modeling, and engagement evaluation.
- Process, analyze, and visualize sensor data to evaluate system performance, calculate impact locations, and generate technical reports.
- Analyze system-level requirements and contribute to software designs and implementation strategies that align with customer and program objectives.
- Design, code, debug, and optimize software applications using Python, C/C++, and other applicable programming languages in Linux and Windows environments.
- Support software integration with hardware and external systems, including serial communications, Ethernet, APIs, and other data interfaces.
- Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests to verify software functionality, identify failure modes, and improve software reliability.
- Participate in code reviews, apply version control and software development best practices, and contribute to technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve software performance, processing efficiency, reliability, and user experience.
- Collaborate with engineers, technical leads, and stakeholders to communicate development progress, resolve technical challenges, and incorporate end-user feedback.
- Support development planning, integration activities, and delivery of software capabilities while identifying technical risks and opportunities for improvement.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must possess an active DoD Security Clearance: Secret level or higher.
- Travel up to 20% to support test and evaluation initiatives
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–10 years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, with an emphasis on Python and/or C/C++.
- Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining software applications in Linux and/or Windows environments.
- Understanding of software development principles, algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with software testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to analyze technical requirements and translate them into practical software solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with modeling and simulation, physics-based modeling, or digital twin development.
- Familiarity with six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulations, system dynamics, numerical methods, or trajectory modeling.
- Experience supporting lethality analysis, weapon-target interactions, system effectiveness assessments, or Test and Evaluation activities.
- Experience processing, analyzing, and visualizing data collected from EO/IR sensors, radar, tracking systems, or other remote sensing platforms.
- Familiarity with mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, uncertainty analysis, or Monte Carlo simulation techniques.
- Experience developing software that interfaces with hardware or external systems through serial communications, Ethernet, APIs, or other data interfaces.
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks, integration testing, software verification, and validation.
- Experience with Git or other version control systems and collaborative software development workflows.
- Familiarity with real-time or soft real-time software systems, multi-threaded applications, and performance optimization.
- Experience supporting DoD programs, defense-related engineering efforts, or government Test and Evaluation activities.
