Build Marine Projects Where the Work Actually Happens

Orion is hiring a Superintendent to lead field operations on marine construction projects across the Atlantic Division. You’ll direct daily work through General Foremen and Foremen and partner with the Project Manager to line up crews, equipment, and materials. You’ll set the pace on site, solve problems as conditions change, and hold crews accountable for safety, workmanship, and production.

Orion builds on, over, and under the water. Our projects include ports, docks, bridges, causeways, mechanical dredging, and other waterfront infrastructure. Our teams are guided by Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, built on a foundation of Integrity.

What You’ll Do

• Review project scope, schedule, and cost with the Project Manager before mobilization. Coordinate work plans with foremen and subcontractors.

• Lead daily field operations, sequence work across crafts, and coordinate staffing, materials, barges, cranes, and other equipment.

• Track production, percent complete, and field spending against the plan. Update the Project Manager or General Superintendent daily and raise issues that could affect the schedule or budget.

• Inspect workmanship, verify crews follow construction procedures, and carry out approved change orders as directed.

• Coordinate heavy equipment use and maintenance, maintain tool inventory, and oversee site setup, housekeeping, and security.

• Help recruit and evaluate craft employees, provide input on personnel decisions, and ensure new crew members receive safety and job-specific training before starting field assignments.

• Work with the Field Safety Representative to maintain site safeguards and emergency readiness. Support inspections and audits, correct hazards, and stop work when unsafe conditions are observed or anticipated.

What You’ll Need

• At least 8 years of marine construction experience on work barges or job sites, or equivalent experience supervising marine construction.

• Previous supervisory experience leading foremen and craft crews.

• First Aid and CPR certification.

• Experience receiving and handling equipment used in marine operations.

• Working knowledge of how to coordinate pile driving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting, and related crafts.

• Ability to anticipate field problems, control job costs, maintain schedules, and communicate clearly with crews and project leadership.

• Ability to travel up to 100% and work the project rotation.

Jobsite Requirements

You must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Field work includes wearing required PPE, safely accessing barges, boats, vessels, and docks, and responding appropriately in emergencies. The role may involve prolonged standing or sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, working at heights or in confined spaces, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

For dredging assignments, the work also requires recognizing visual and audible changes in dredging operations.

Compensation and Benefits

Bonus opportunities, per diem, and relocation assistance may be available depending on the role, project assignment, and eligibility.

• Medical, dental, and vision coverage and an Employee Assistance Program.

• Company-paid life and AD&D insurance and short-term and long-term disability coverage.

• Fidelity 401(k) with Safe Harbor Match and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

• Paid time off, nine paid public holidays, and volunteer time off.

• Tuition reimbursement, an employee referral program, employee discounts, and wellness programs.

Benefits and other compensation programs are subject to applicable plan documents, company policies, and eligibility requirements.
