Original job description

Cloud Adoption Engineer - Oracle Government, Defense & Intelligence Build the Foundation for Successful Cloud Adoption Oracle Government, Defense & Intelligence is seeking a Cloud Adoption Engineer to help U.S. Federal Government customers establish secure, scalable, and operationally ready Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments. Successful cloud adoption requires sound foundations across tenancy design, networking, identity, security, governance, observability, and automation. As a Cloud Adoption Engineer, you will work directly with customers to assess readiness, identify technical dependencies, design foundational architectures, and validate that environments are ready for adoption. You will combine hands-on engineering, architectural judgment, and customer collaboration to turn complex requirements into practical designs, reusable infrastructure code, actionable implementation guidance, and clear operational ownership.

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Poly
  • This is a HYBRID position that involves a combination of remote, in-office work and meetings at the client site. Candidates must be based in the greater Washington DC area.

What You’ll Do Assess Customer Readiness

  • Engage customer stakeholders to understand mission objectives, business drivers, technical environments, and adoption priorities.
  • Lead discovery across applications, databases, infrastructure, networking, identity, security, operations, governance, and automation.
  • Assess workload dependencies, migration suitability, technical constraints, and foundational requirements.
  • Develop evidence-based readiness assessments identifying gaps, risks, recommendations, accountable owners, and target dates.
  • Recommend adoption sequencing and migration-readiness actions based on technical dependencies and customer priorities.

Design OCI Foundations

  • Translate customer requirements into secure, resilient, and implementation-ready OCI foundation architectures.
  • Design tenancy and compartment structures, landing zones, environment separation, naming, tagging, governance, and cost controls.
  • Develop network designs covering VCNs, subnets, routing, DNS, segmentation, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Guide identity federation, access policies, least privilege, multifactor authentication, and emergency access arrangements.
  • Define logging, monitoring, security telemetry, alert routing, and integration with customer security operations.
  • Document architecture decisions, alternatives, tradeoffs, dependencies, and exceptions.

Build Infrastructure-as-Code and Automation

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain OCI foundation components using Terraform and OCI Resource Manager.
  • Create reusable Terraform modules and manage state, resource dependencies, and environment-specific configurations.
  • Develop Python scripts to integrate APIs, configure cloud resources, validate deployments, and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Manage infrastructure and automation code in Git-based repositories using branching, pull requests, and peer review.
  • Apply secure practices for credentials, secrets, access permissions, and deployment execution.
  • Troubleshoot provisioning failures, configuration errors, permissions, and infrastructure dependencies.
  • Document deployment procedures and enable customer and delivery teams to maintain and extend the automation.

Enable Implementation

  • Translate architecture designs into actionable implementation tasks with sequencing, ownership, and acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct technical working sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises to help teams implement agreed designs.
  • Collaborate with professional services, delivery partners, and customer engineers to resolve foundational implementation blockers.
  • Guide deployment practices that support consistency, repeatability, and operational sustainability.

Validate Readiness and Transfer Ownership

  • Review deployed foundations against agreed architecture and operational readiness criteria.
  • Validate connectivity, identity, security controls, logging, monitoring, and automation through documented evidence.
  • Track unresolved gaps and exceptions, ensuring risks are addressed or formally accepted by accountable owners.
  • Prepare operational handoff packages covering architecture, infrastructure code, deployment procedures, runbooks, support paths, and outstanding actions.
  • Transfer knowledge to receiving teams and confirm their acceptance of operational ownership.

Improve Repeatable Adoption Practices

  • Use and improve shared discovery workbooks, readiness assessments, design templates, architecture decision records, and handoff checklists.
  • Apply existing Oracle documentation, reference architectures, training, and labs to customer needs.
  • Contribute reusable infrastructure modules, automation scripts, engineering patterns, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain broad capability across cloud adoption foundations while developing deeper expertise in networking, identity, security operations, or Infrastructure-as-Code.
  • Communicate progress, risks, recommendations, and decisions clearly to customer and Oracle stakeholders.

How You’ll Work You will own the quality and completion of assigned Cloud Adoption Engineering deliverables, working with the Senior Manager of Cloud Adoption Engineering and relevant technical specialists. Your focus will be cloud foundation readiness. You will coordinate application implementation, migration execution, and ongoing production operations with the teams responsible for those activities. Required Qualifications

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Poly
  • Five or more years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, architecture, or technical delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with OCI, AWS, Azure, OR Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or assessing enterprise cloud foundations.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud networking, identity and access management, security, compute, storage, and observability.
  • Experience assessing customer environments, workload dependencies, and migration requirements.
  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, including reusable modules, state management, and environment-specific configurations.
  • Experience using Python, with the ability to develop scripts that configure cloud resources, integrate APIs, validate deployments, and automate operational tasks.
  • Experience managing infrastructure code in Git-based repositories, including branching, pull requests, peer review, and version control.
  • Experience troubleshooting infrastructure deployments and automation, including configuration errors, resource dependencies, permissions, and failed provisioning.
  • Ability to translate requirements into architecture designs, implementation guidance, and readiness recommendations.
  • Strong customer discovery, technical facilitation, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of federal cloud security and compliance requirements and their implications for architecture and operational readiness.
  • Ability to manage assigned technical work, communicate risks, and coordinate across customer and delivery teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government customers.
  • OCI expertise across tenancy design, landing zones, networking, identity federation, and security operations integration.
  • Experience with OCI Resource Manager, OCI CLI, and OCI SDKs.
  • Experience integrating infrastructure deployments with CI/CD pipelines and automated validation.
  • Familiarity with Shell scripting, Ansible, or other configuration management and automation tools.
  • Experience with Oracle applications, databases, middleware, or VMware environments.
  • Familiarity with FastConnect, Site-to-Site VPN, enterprise identity providers, and SIEM/SOC integration.
  • Knowledge of cloud governance, cost accountability, resilience, and disaster recovery.
  • Relevant cloud architecture, networking, security, or automation certifications.

What Success Looks Like Customers understand their adoption requirements, dependencies, risks, and next steps. Foundation designs are actionable, infrastructure deployments are repeatable, readiness recommendations are supported by evidence, and operational responsibilities are clearly accepted.
