Original job description

Position Summary OptiTrack seeks a hands-on Senior Manufacturing Engineer to develop, automate, optimize, and scale manufacturing for motion capture, tracking, vision, and sensing products. Working across precision machining, electronics, optics, robotics, additive manufacturing, assembly, calibration, and testing, you will partner with engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production to launch new products and improve quality, throughput, cost, and reliability.

Essential Responsibilities Manufacturing Process Development

  • Lead NPI manufacturing readiness from concept through production; develop, qualify, and scale assembly, calibration, test, inspection, and packaging processes for changing volumes and product mixes.
  • Create work instructions, process flows, FMEAs, validation reports, and control plans.

Automation & Robotics

  • Identify, justify, and deploy automation for assembly, testing, calibration, inspection, material handling, and data collection using industrial robots, cobots, machine vision, and automated fixtures.

Precision Machining & Fabrication

  • Optimize CNC horizontal and vertical machining, palletized automation, mill-turn, turning, and finishing processes for aluminum, stainless steel, plastics, composites, and Invar.
  • Partner with machinists, programmers, and product teams on DFM/DFA, tooling, workholding, cycle times, and machine utilization.

Electronics Manufacturing

  • Support SMT stencil design, pick-and-place tooling, reflow, AOI, depanelization fixtures, and BGA rework; develop PCB assembly, programming, functional test, burn-in, and validation methods and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot PCBAs, embedded electronics, communications, power electronics, and sensor systems.

Optical Systems Manufacturing

  • Develop optical assembly, alignment, lens characterization, camera calibration, and image-quality verification processes; partner with optical and software teams to analyze performance, reduce variation, and improve yield.

Product Testing & Validation

  • Develop automated test equipment, fixtures, and data acquisition; support environmental, reliability, ESD, IP66/IP67, HALT/HASS, and production sampling programs.
  • Drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions using structured problem-solving methodologies.

Additive Manufacturing & Rapid Prototyping

  • Use SLS, SLA, and FDM to build tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, test equipment, and automation components; evaluate technologies that improve development speed, quality, and cost.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead Lean/Six Sigma improvements using statistical analysis, process control, capacity planning, line balancing, workstation optimization, cost reduction, and manufacturing KPIs.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering; Mechatronics; Robotics; or a related field.
  • 8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in electronics, robotics, optics, precision mechanical products, medical devices, aerospace, industrial equipment, or similar industries.
  • Strong DFM, DFA, and Design for Test (DFT) knowledge, with experience supporting NPI.
  • SolidWorks proficiency in assemblies, configurations, drawings, and tooling; experience designing production fixtures, jigs, test equipment, and automation systems.
  • Hands-on mechanical, electrical, automation, and manufacturing troubleshooting; strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Robotics, cobots, machine vision, motion control, PLC programming, and industrial automation; robot platforms such as Denso, FANUC, ABB, or Stäubli.
  • Optical systems, cameras, lenses, imaging sensors, sensor integration, alignment, calibration, and image-quality testing.
  • SMT processes and electronics production equipment, PCB test development, ESD controls, and electronics troubleshooting.
  • CNC machining, CAD/CAM, workholding, GD&T, and precision metrology, including CMMs, optical metrology, structured light scanners, and laser measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing, reliability engineering, and qualification methods.
  • Python, C#, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar tools; SQL, manufacturing data systems and analytics, statistical tools such as Minitab, PDM/PLM, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
