OPENTEXT - THE INFORMATION COMPANY

OpenText is a global leader in information management, where innovation, creativity, and collaboration are the key components of our corporate culture. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to partner with the most highly regarded companies in the world, tackle complex issues, and contribute to projects that shape the future of digital transformation.

AI-First. Future-Driven. Human-Centered. At OpenText, AI is at the heart of everything we do - powering innovation, transforming work, and empowering digital knowledge workers. We are hiring talent AI can't replace to help us shape the future of information management. Join us.

Role: Lead Software Developer Location: Lexington, KY, USA (Office-based)

The opportunity

OpenText Exstream is a vibrant software development organization that provides a multichannel customer communication management (CCM) solution designed to improve the customer experience and make customer interactions more effective. It enables business users to create communications for connected customer journeys across the delivery formats and channels customers prefer, including email, web, and mobile.

We are looking for a Lead Software Developer to join the OpenText Exstream Product Development organization in an SRE-oriented DSP engineering role. This position is focused on performance, observability, and production reliability for our cloud-based products. The role will build performance testing and telemetry into the delivery lifecycle, improve early detection of regressions, and give engineering teams actionable data to resolve reliability issues before they affect customers.

You will work across the software lifecycle, from architecture and design through development, validation, release, and production operations. You will collaborate closely with development, quality assurance, DevOps, documentation, product management, and support teams to strengthen system resilience and turn production signals into measurable engineering improvements.

You are great at:

Leading the design and development of reliable, scalable software and platform capabilities for DSP services and workflows.
Embedding performance engineering into the delivery lifecycle through workload modeling, automated performance tests, baselines, release gates, and regression analysis.
Designing and implementing observability using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts, and service-level indicators that make system behavior and customer impact visible.
Improving early detection of reliability and performance regressions in CI/CD pipelines and pre-production environments.
Analyzing latency, throughput, capacity, resource utilization, failure patterns, and production telemetry to identify bottlenecks and reliability risks.
Providing engineering teams with actionable diagnostic data, clear problem statements, and prioritized recommendations for remediation.
Defining and evolving service-level objectives, error budgets, operational readiness criteria, and production health indicators.
Automating reliability validation, environment checks, telemetry verification, and repeatable diagnostic workflows.
Partnering with development and operations teams on incident prevention, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and durable engineering fixes.
Mentoring engineers and influencing architecture, coding practices, testability, operability, and reliability standards across teams.

What it takes:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on development of production software or distributed systems.
Strong proficiency in at least one common development language such as C/C++, Java, .NET, or Python.
Experience with performance testing, profiling, capacity analysis, benchmarking, and diagnosing system bottlenecks.
Experience implementing observability with metrics, logging, distributed tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
Understanding of site reliability engineering practices, including service-level indicators, service-level objectives, error budgets, incident response, and post-incident improvement.
Experience integrating automated tests and quality or reliability checks into CI/CD pipelines.
Strong understanding of cloud-native systems, APIs, distributed architectures, and production troubleshooting.
Ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly and drive cross-functional engineering decisions.

Nice to have:

Experience with one or more cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
Hands-on experience with observability and performance platforms such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Application Insights, Dynatrace, Splunk, or equivalent technologies.
Experience with performance tools such as JMeter, Gatling, k6, Locust, or equivalent frameworks.
Familiarity with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with multiple platforms and data technologies, including Unix/Linux, Windows, z/OS, DB2, and SQL Server.
Knowledge of XML, JSON, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and service integration patterns.
Strong knowledge of Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and establishing engineering standards across multiple teams.
