The short version
Some clients call us to build something new. Others need one more great engineer on a team that's already moving. Either way, you're the reason they call back.
As a Technologist at Object Computing (OCI), you'll work inside client organizations on systems they can't afford to get wrong: aerospace and defense platforms, financial systems, healthcare data, products millions of people use every day. Some engagements you'll help run from discovery to delivery. Others, you'll join a client's team as one of their own for months at a time.
The job is the same in both cases. Do excellent work, tell people the truth, and leave the place better than you found it. We hire for this role several times a year. There may not be an open seat today. If you apply, we'll keep you in mind and reach out when the work fits.
What the work looks like
You'll move between two kinds of engagements, and plenty of them are a little of both.
• Project consulting. OCI owns the outcome. We start with technical discovery (the reality behind the brief, not just the brief), shape an architecture and roadmap, then build alongside the client's people so they understand the system as well as we do when we hand it over.
• Embedded engineering. You join a client's team: their standups, their backlog, their tools. You're there to add capacity, but you don't stop being an OCI technologist. You still bring an opinion, flag risks early, and make the people around you better.
On a given week you might:
• Sit in on a planning session and ask the question nobody else asked
• Untangle a legacy system so it can finally be modernized instead of patched
• Build or extend a data pipeline, cloud platform, AI workflow, or user-facing product
• Write up two or three options with honest tradeoffs, then push back with data when it matters
• Pair with a client engineer until they don't need you for that thing anymore
• Tell your account lead what's going well, what isn't, and what's coming
The work spans OCI's practice areas: AI Solutions, AI Productivity, Application Modernization, Data Engineering, Experience Design, and Platform Engineering across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. Nobody expects you to know all of it. We do expect you to be curious about the parts you don't.
Many engagements run as small pods of two to four OCI engineers. Each pod needs a delivery lead: a strong engineer who keeps the work on track, keeps the client close, and helps the rest of the pod do their best work. If that's where you want to grow, tell us.
Who does well here
The best OCI technologists have a few things in common. You don't need to be great at all of them on day one, but you should recognize yourself in most.
• You balance speed and technical rigor. You prototype quickly to validate ideas, evaluate architectural tradeoffs, and build reliable production systems that last.
• You translate between code and business value. You explain complex technical decisions to stakeholders, listen to domain constraints, and focus on real outcomes.
• You elevate client engineering teams. You pair, mentor, and share modern practices so client engineers are equipped to maintain and grow the system after handoff.
• You adapt quickly across modern stacks. Whether stepping into a legacy monolith or a cloud-native platform, you get up to speed fast and leverage AI tooling to accelerate delivery.
• You take ownership and communicate proactively. You flag technical risks early, recommend clear paths forward, and build trust through transparent execution.
What you bring
We hire for range and judgment, not a checklist of tools. Engagements change; how you think travels with you.
What we're looking for
• Several years of professional software engineering, delivered for real users in production
• Depth in at least one area: backend or full-stack development, cloud and platform work, data engineering, AI/ML integration, or front-end and experience design
• Comfort walking into an unfamiliar codebase, team, or industry and getting useful quickly
• Experience working directly with stakeholders, not just receiving tickets from them
• Clear writing and speaking, including in front of people who aren't engineers
• Practical, day-to-day use of AI tools in how you build
Bonus points
• Prior consulting or client-facing work
• Experience in regulated or high-stakes environments such as aerospace, defense, finance, or healthcare
• Hands-on time with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or Databricks
• Open-source contributions, including to frameworks like Micronaut, Grails, or OpenDDS
• Mentoring, teaching, writing, or speaking about your work
• You've led a small team of engineers on a client engagement.
