Position Purpose The DREAM Initiative Program Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to lead this test of a prototype of a student support system designed to close the persistence and graduation gap between first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students and the campus-wide student performance. As the person leading the 25-50 students that will be participating in the program, the Coordinator will have the principal responsibility for helping each student navigate the campus and life challenges that cause first-generation students to leave school at higher rates than their peers. The Coordinator will also manage, recruit, and supervise peer leaders/tutors for the program, and work closely with core business and student support services such as Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, CMI, FYAC, University Housing, Graham Health Center, Academic Success Center, Writing Center, Academic Advising, etc.

Additionally, the coordinator will assist with a second group of 25 new first-generation students living in the residence halls during their first year of college. This includes collaborating with other units at Oakland University to increase first-year enrollment and persistence of the second cohort of students.

This role requires a person who wants to make an important difference in the world.
Job Duties Lead approximately 25 returning students and 25 new students from a select geographic region to successfully navigate the academic, financial, emotional, and life challenges each student encounters. Advise prospective students on university processes, including a referral to both admissions and financial aid for questions about policies.
Develop trusting and informed relationships with each of the 50 students to be able to support them with both school-related and life-related challenges, and enable them to navigate university life successfully and access the many available resources.
