Original job description

Summary

At the New York Power Authority, you will be empowered to think big, do good, and transform the energy industry. We are a collaborative team of over 2,400 energy technologists, IT specialists, business experts, hydro engineers, and diverse professionals leading the energy revolution. With state-of-the-art technology, advanced research and development, a modernized infrastructure, and a focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG), we provide New Yorkers with low-cost, clean, reliable power - and we are well on the way to becoming the first end-to-end digital utility in the country.

This internship provides an opportunity to work alongside engineers and designers on real-world utility projects, developing technical drawings and design documentation that support NYPA's generation and transmission systems.

The Clark Energy Center (CEC) Engineering and Design team provides engineering, drafting, and technical support for critical electric generation and transmission assets across New York State. The team develops and maintains engineering drawings, design packages, records, and technical documentation that support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of NYPA facilities.

The Design & Drafting Intern will assist with engineering design support, technical drawing development, document management, and field verification activities. Through hands-on involvement with utility infrastructure projects, the intern will gain practical experience with engineering standards, drafting software, asset documentation, and project coordination while working alongside experienced engineers, designers, and technical specialists.

This opportunity is well suited for students pursuing degrees in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Drafting and Design Technology, Architectural Technology, or related technical disciplines.

Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 8th - August 13th, 2026. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

Applications will close on December 31st, 2026.

If you are passionate about our mission – to lead the transition to a carbon-free, economically vibrant New York through customer partnerships, innovative energy solutions, community engagement and the responsible supply of affordable, clean, and reliable electricity, we are looking for you!
